When a neighbor needs a ride to a medical appointment, showing up on time can make all the difference.

AstraCare has been a steady community partner with CareForward, providing non-emergent medical transportation — often with little notice. Again and again, their team has helped neighbors reach essential appointments and services they might otherwise miss.

Reliable transportation keeps people connected to care, supports stability at home, and helps close a gap before it becomes a larger problem. We’re proud to work alongside AstraCare as a trusted partner in that work.

If you or a community organization needs non-emergent medical transportation, we recommend reaching out to AstraCare. And if you’re ready to show up when you’re able, sign up at app.careforward.io/sign-up/

Piedmont Community Services is working with an individual who recently experienced a significant change in her living situation and lost access to several important resources. She currently does not have access to a vehicle or computer, creating additional barriers to staying connected with her providers and support system.

A computer would allow her to continue meeting virtually with her therapist and providers, participate in online classes through the Brain Injury Center, and connect with support groups and other positive resources. These activities provide structure, connection, and opportunities to build skills while helping reduce feelings of isolation.

Without assistance, she remains at risk for increased isolation, worsening mental health symptoms, and difficulty staying connected to important treatment and community supports. Providing access to a computer would help reduce these barriers and support her continued progress and stability in the community.

Requested item:
-Laptop or desktop computer

This would provide more than just access to technology—it would help her stay connected to the people, resources, and activities that support her well-being. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Piedmont Community Services is working with an individual who is preparing to move into a new apartment after experiencing an unexpected life transition. She has secured housing, but limited income and transportation barriers have made it difficult to furnish her new home with the basic items needed for everyday living.

At this time, she is in need of several household essentials, including a washer and dryer, basic furniture, cookware, and cleaning supplies. These items will help her establish a safe, functional home where she can live independently and continue building stability.

***NOTE: Only a Gently Used Dryer is needed at this time. All other requested items have been fulfilled.***

Without assistance, she remains at risk for increased financial hardship, difficulty maintaining her housing, and added stress as she adjusts to a new beginning. Meeting these needs will help create a stable home environment and reduce barriers to long-term independence.

Requested items include:
-Washer
-Dryer
-Living room chair
-Dresser
-Television
-Cookware
-Eating utensils
-Cleaning supplies
-Volunteer with a truck to help transport the washer and dryer

Providing these everyday essentials would help turn an empty apartment into a place she can truly call home. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated and would make a meaningful difference as she begins this new chapter.

Neighbors and community partners showed up for a local family preparing for major medical care out of state.

Food Country USA provided non-perishable food to help cover meals during travel and recovery. This practical support eases some of the financial pressure that comes with being away from home for an extended period.

When basic needs are met, families can focus on what matters most. This is what community looks like—showing up with real help when it’s needed.

Some people respond to requests with their time.

Some respond to requests with their talent.

Some respond to requests with their resources.

All of it matters.

CareForward exists so that practical help—furniture, rides, household goods, minor assistance—can flow between neighbors when it’s needed most. No one has to do everything. Everyone can do something.

How will you show up for your community?

The community showed up for a neighbor working to regain stability after a difficult season.

Essential clothing, cleaning supplies, hygiene items, and basic household necessities were needed to support a safe home and ease daily pressure. Help with fuel for a lawn mower also made it possible to maintain the property without added strain.

Neighbors and community partners responded with practical support that reduces barriers and helps someone focus on moving forward.

This is what showing up looks like—meeting real needs so stability can take root.

Piedmont Community Services is working with a 50-year-old female who recently moved into her own apartment after experiencing homelessness. She is grateful to have a place to call home, but limited income and ongoing health concerns have made it difficult to furnish her new space with the basic items needed for daily living.

At this time, she is in need of a bed, mattress, small couch, small chair, and a small table for her microwave. ***NOTE: Only the Small Couch and Delivery Assistance is Still Needed*** Having these essential furnishings would provide a safe and comfortable place to rest, help ease daily physical discomfort, and create a more stable and functional home environment as she continues rebuilding her life.

Without assistance, she remains at risk for worsening physical pain, increased stress and anxiety, and setbacks in maintaining her mental health and housing stability. Meeting these needs would support her independence, reduce barriers to recovery, and help prevent the need for higher levels of care.

Requested items include:
- Small couch
- Help with Delivery

Providing these basic furnishings would help turn an empty apartment into a place she can truly call home and support the stability she has worked hard to achieve. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Community works when we all show up.

Not with grand gestures.

Not with endless hours.

Just with the small, practical ways we can help a neighbor when we’re able — delivering a donated item, sharing a need, offering a little space, or simply saying “I can help with that.” Every time someone shows up, even briefly, the network of support around us grows stronger.

That’s how CareForward works.

Neighbors. Partners. Volunteers.

Showing up for one another.

Neighbors showed up in a major way.

Aaron's Inc. of Marion donated a dryer. Aaron's Inc. of Galax donated a washing machine. Ralph's Bargain Outlet in Damascus contributed hygiene products. Toys-for- Tots Drive Wythe, Bland, Grayson, Carroll Chapter delivered a huge bag of toys. Silly Girl Thrift in Abingdon shared headbands and friendship bracelets. Several individuals added their own contributions as well.

This is what community looks like—practical support that helps stabilize a household and bring a little joy. Small acts, offered when people are able, make a real difference!
