Today I did something I’ve never done before.

My first completely unassisted pull-up. 🥹

And the funny thing is…I didn’t know it was coming.

I was just practicing.

Just showing up. Just trying again.

And maybe that’s what I love most about this moment.

We rarely know which day of the ordinary work is going to become the day something finally changes.

The reps.
The failures.
The little improvements.
The days you feel strong.
The days you absolutely do not.

The quiet work nobody sees.

And then one day…you surprise yourself.

I’ve had Romans 5:3-5 on repeat lately—about perseverance, character and hope.

Endurance.

That word has been sitting with me.

Because this isn’t really about a pull-up.

It’s about what happens when we keep going long enough to become someone we once weren’t.

And I’m learning to let myself be proud of that.

Not boastful.
Not better than anyone else.
Just proud.

Because I think women have been taught to shrink our celebrations a little.

To downplay the hard things we’ve accomplished.

I don’t want to do that anymore.

So today, at 53, I’m celebrating a pull-up.

And I’m celebrating the woman who kept showing up long enough to do it.

Especially because I know I didn’t get here alone.

Burn Boot Camp Rochester North has created such a fun, encouraging space to get stronger, try things that scare us, and discover we’re capable of more than we thought.

Matthew Morris —you get in my head even when I’m doing On Demand and somehow convince me to push a little harder.

Joe Jones —you are forever pushing me beyond what I think I can do.

And Emma Ricks🇱🇷 —you were such a light today (and always). Your genuine excitement and emotion when I did it made me want to cry. 🥹

This is what community looks like.

People who push you.

People who believe in you.

People who celebrate with you.

And maybe sometimes, faith looks a little like this too…

Keep showing up.

Keep practicing.

Keep enduring.

Keep hoping.

You never know when the thing you’ve been working toward is going to become the thing you can finally do.

Today, I could.

And yes…I’m pretty damn proud of myself. 🤍💪

I don’t know what exact form of therapy this is:

But for me-singing like a fool, worshiping in my garden while harvesting and praying over my family is something I can’t exactly explain to you.

But sheesh-that will cleanse some stuff….

And by “in a season” I mean, a quiet one.

Don’t make it weird and start offering hugs virtually.

I mean I’ll hug you any day, for a long amount of time.

Anyway…..

Sometimes the kindest thing you can do for a plant is cut it back.

Turns out… God often gardens people the same way.

Pruning feels like loss in the moment. Less blooms. Less comfort. Less of what we thought we needed.

But pruning isn’t punishment—it’s preparation.

So if this season feels like things are being stripped away, don’t lose heart. The Gardener knows exactly what He’s doing.

Fewer leaves.
Better blooms.
More fruit.

Good news: the flowers will thank me later.

I’m still working on being that mature when God prunes me.

“Make it an invitation, not an education.”

(((Write that down… it’s good! I love when I impress myself!!)))

So many of us hold back from sharing what we know because we think we need more credentials, more experience, or a more advanced message.

But most people aren’t looking for a master’s class.

They’re looking for a 101.

They’re looking for someone who’s willing to explain the first step, the basic concept, the thing that feels obvious to you now but once felt completely foreign.

We forget what it was like to be beginners.

We forget how valuable simple can be.

The truth is, every one of us has knowledge, experience, and wisdom that could help someone else take their next step.

Not by educating from a pedestal.

By inviting from alongside.

What do you know now that would have helped the version of you from five years ago?

That’s probably exactly what someone else needs to hear today.

I’m not training for a finish line.
I’m training for a life.

A life where I can haul bags of soil for the garden I prayed for.
A life where I can move my body with strength and gratitude.
A life where I can keep showing up for the people I love and the work God has called me to do.

Because life is lived outside of the gym.

It’s wheelbarrows and watering cans.
Long days and lifting heavy things.
Helping people move. Hiking trails. Carrying groceries. Dancing in the kitchen. Care for patients at work. Getting back up after hard seasons.

At 53, my goal isn’t punishment or perfection.
It’s stewardship.
Caring for the body I’ve been given so I can fully live the life in front of me.

And I’m grateful for spaces like that remind women they are capable, strong, and resilient. 💛

The goal is a full life, not just a fit body.

I’m capable of so much more than my mind often believes. And so are you.

Everyone is walking carrying something around. And what lives in our brains is an enemy that wants to steal our joy, our pride, and our mental reserve.

Whatever your thing is today, I hope you can find a little bit of courage to lean in and find that lion inside.

And this burn nation-on all platforms-it’s like no other! I’m so grateful to be a part of it.
