Dutton Farm was envisioned by Michele Smither in 2009 from her 27 years of experience in caring for the physically, mentally and emotionally impaired. Having a daughter of her own with Downs Syndrome, she has firsthand experience on being the parent of a child with a disability. Over the years, Michele has received a growing recognition for her outstanding services and consistent support to famili

es with disabled children. She has successfully implemented 3 church programs, provided loving care to over 40 respite clients and over 20 foster children. Today, she plans to partner her experience and passion to step into her calling of providing a safe and loving environment that helps better prepare individuals with physical, mental and emotional impairments for life, employment and happiness.

Hannah is a new job seeker looking for employment. She were able to take her to Fulex - Ecommerce Fulfillment Services for a job shadow experience.

Hannah got to sit down with the operations manager, Michelle, and learn about what the day to day looks like in a warehouse environment. After that, Hannah got to observe and try various tasks like packaging, wrapping items in bubble wrap, and placing flyers in envelopes.

Job shadowing is completed by job seekers who are still trying to narrow down an area of interest before applying for jobs. This was a great opportunity for Hannah to see what working in a warehouse environment is really like!

Nathan was referred through Dutton Farm to complete a four-week Work-Based Learning Experience (WBLE). Based on his interest in the food service industry, he was placed at the Culver's location at 23 Mile Road and Hayes Road in Macomb.

After receiving instruction and training on his assigned duties, Nathan quickly became proficient in his tasks. He was able to work independently from his Job Coach and having to refer to the task checklist, demonstrating strong comprehension and retention of his responsibilities.

Throughout his four-week placement, Nathan consistently displayed an excellent work ethic and produced high-quality work. His performance was recognized and complimented by management, coworkers, and customers for his positive attitude, reliability, and dedication.

At the conclusion of his placement, Nathan expressed a strong interest in continuing his employment at Culver's and stated that he would like to work there on weekends once the school year begins.

Great work Nathan! Dutton Farm is so proud of your success at Culver's and wishes you the best in the future!

Growing with Purpose!

Our participants at Dutton Farm are hard at work caring for the farm and everything that grows here!

They water the flowers and veggies, tend to the gardens, pull weeds, check on plants and make sure everything has what it needs to grow. They also help care for our farm animals by making sure they have fresh water, clean spaces, food and plenty of love and attention.

These everyday tasks may seem simple, but they provide something incredibly important - purpose!

Our participants are learning responsibility, building work skills, working as a team, making choices and seeing the results of their efforts. They get to experience the pride that comes from knowing, "I helped make this happen."

Every flower watered, every vegetable harvested and every animal cared for is another opportunity for our participants to learn, contribute and grow.

At Dutton Farm, we're not just growing plants, we're growing possibilities!!
