If you can relate to 2 or more of these symptoms, you likely have pelvic floor tension.

Don’t fret. Tension is resolvable. And you don’t need to live with it anymore 💛

At The Pelvic Sanctuary, I don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach.

Expect a holistic approach focused on the mind-body connection, movement, and gentle fascia bodywork.

Around 90% of first-time moms will experience some degree of vaginal tearing during birth. This decreases to 70% in subsequent births. 🤰

The good news is that the vast majority of tears (around 95%) are first-degree or second-degree. 🙏

Grading of perineal tears:
First-degree: impacts the skin of the perineum
Second-degree: impacts the skin and muscle layer of the perineum
Third degree: extends to the a**l sphincter
Fourth degree: extends to the lining of the re**um

There ARE ways to prevent severe perineal tears and protect your perineum during birth. Preparing your pelvic floor and nervous system is key ✨

And if you need additional support, a pelvic floor assessment is the best way to know what exercises are best for YOU 💗

6. You get tailbone pain with sitting or stress
7. You avoid tampons/sex/GYN exams because it’s painful

The majority of pelvic floors I assess have some degree of tension.

Prolonged sitting + chronic stress + shallow breathing is a recipe for pelvic floor tension.

The good news.. Tension is resolvable 🫶

You can take care of your pelvic floor by getting up from your seat every hour to do some yoga postures and breathing.

In this video, I’m doing a segmental cat-cow for spinal fluidity and control. Start at the head, and move vertebrae by vertebrae down the body, then reverse it!

Do you relate to any of the signs of pelvic floor tension above?

If you want support, DM me “tension” and let’s chat!

Our hormones and nervous system are undeniably interconnected and create our reality in every moment. 🧠

A common belief I hear is that there are only about 10 “good” days of the menstrual cycle, and the rest of the 20 days is “bad”.

Give me 2 minutes to help you reframe that.

The “good” phase (late follicular/ovulation) is dominated by the hormone estrogen, and our nervous system is parasympathetically dominant (chill) at baseline.

This means
🐛Higher buffer to stress
🐛More energy for workouts
🐛More social

But also
🐛More likely to people-please
🐛More likely to prioritize other people and the group coherence

Deeply grateful for this beautiful phase of energy and socialization… 🫶

Then cue the luteal phase. 🫣

The “bad” phase (which actually has so many strengths of its own)

In the late luteal/menstrual phase, our hormones fluctuate without the buffer of estrogen. We are more sympathetically dominant (activated) at baseline.

This means
🦋Less tolerance to BS
🦋The veil is thin
🦋More connected to our truth
🦋More likely to set boundaries

But also
🦋We need to balance our sympathetic dominance with more parasympathetic people/activities (self-care is huge here, spend time doing things and being around people who help you stay grounded)

This is your gentle invitation to see your luteal phase as nature’s gift to help you stay connected to your truth so you’re not continuously prioritizing others/people-pleasing.

Somatic Experiencing is a mind-body therapy to stay present with activation and allow energies of fight/flight/and freeze to complete and move through you, with the goal of greater capacity for stress and activation without feeling overwhelmed by it.

Send me a DM if you want support with this. I specialize in somatics for the female nervous system.🩷

Just some things to be aware of when starting pelvic floor therapy… be warned ✨💃

07/10/2026

The pelvic floor muscles stretch about 3 TIMES their normal size during labor!

Studies show that pelvic floor tension in labor leads to:
🤰a longer pushing phase
🤰increased risk for perineal tearing
🤰increased risk for instrument assisted birth (vacuum or forceps)

Pelvic floor therapy should not JUST be recommended in postpartum!

Pelvic floor therapy is a necessity in PREGNANCY too for a *smoother birth experience*

I often get asked how I integrate Somatic Experiencing® with pelvic floor therapy. 🧠

This is just one of many techniques I teach to help my clients get curious about what triggers pelvic floor tension. 🤔

Curiosity is key!

What happens *right before* clenching?

What happens *right before* a symptom appears?

I’m talking like 1 millisecond before it appears. 🧐

It can be a thought, sensation, emotion, interaction, memory, noise, sight, smell, etc.

This would be known as a trigger, and triggers are treatable.

🔑 The key is finding safety in the present, slowing down the automatic responses with presence, and processing sensations in the body in a titrated and contained way.

I integrate Somatic Experiencing®, muscle and organ-based fascia release, and movement to help my clients heal from pelvic tension and pain in St Petersburg, FL and virtually. 💖

DM me “somatics” if you’d like support with this ✨

Kegels as a one-size-fits-all for urinary leaking has been doing women a disservice. 👎🏻

Sometimes, Kegels can make pelvic floor issues worse ❤️‍🩹 especially if there is already tension in the pelvic floor.

Ever wondered what it looks like to leak due to pelvic floor tension? 👀 Watch this video to find out!

💗 Healing pelvic floor tension typically involves a holistic approach

Because the pelvic floor is responsive to our physical and emotional health 🧠

💪Physically - what could the pelvic floor be responding to? Jaw clenching? A hip or back issue? Diaphragm tension? At The Pelvic Sanctuary, I assess and and treat the fascia outside of the pelvis first.

💛Emotionally - what could the pelvic floor be protecting? Somatic Experiencing is a gentle healing modality that can help undo these protective patterns and bring more safety and ease into the body.

DM with any questions about healing leaking and pelvic floor tension.
