The Equine Healing Collaborative The Equine Healing Collaborative was created to provide a path to recovery, self-discovery and person

The Equine Healing Collaborative was created to provide a path to recovery, self-discovery, personal growth, a re-connection with the natural world, and/or emotional insight and health. The EHC offers more than just traditional talk therapy and utilizes interventions such as equine assisted psychotherapy therapy, mindfulness, and mindful equine massage to promote health and quality of life for ind

ividuals seeking change. History: The inception of The Equine Healing Collaborative came when Jennifer Fenton, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist became certified in Equine Massage Therapy. During the process of certification Jennifer began to notice the healing power of simply being in the presence of equines. She also noticed that as she massaged and released tension in her equine clients, she too released the tension of her day to day work and began to experience new energy and passion for her work and life. Jennifer then began the path of researching and learning as much as she could about equine assisted therapy and how she could combine the practice of mindfulness and massage into this already proven therapeutic technique. Jennifer has a history of working with those who are least able to access or afford mental health services and has experience working with at-risk youth, individuals in crisis, and special needs children. She is certified and/or trained in several evidenced based practices such as Motivational Interviewing, Seeking Safety, Aggression Replacement Training, Client Centered Treatment Planning, Hostage Negotiations, Critical Incident Stress Management, and Mindfulness. Jennifer’s passion for helping those in need led her to the concept of forming a non-profit agency that will combine her passion for equines and her mental health experience. Her vision for this non-profit is to continue to treat those in need including; veterans, at-risk youth, special needs children, and many others seeking alternative treatments that promote mental and emotional health.

Jon Eagle Sr traveled to California and spent time with The Equine Healing Collaborative.

He follows the Spirit of the Horse, a path that has carried him far from home more times than he can count. This time it carried him to us.

For four days he sat with our staff, our volunteers, and our clients, talking about horses and the ways they heal what words alone cannot reach.

We are grateful he keeps following that path our way.

Ella, Bert, and Brutus made the move to San Benancio today.

These three draft horses came to us through All Seated in a Barn, rescued from a kill pen. They have been part of our herd through a lot of change.

Today they walked onto land we own. After years of leasing, EHC purchased 350 San Benancio Road, and this is the forever home we have been working toward. Ella, Bert, and Brutus are settling in beautifully.

Some things are worth the long road to get there.

All day in the field. All night in the barn. Our pigs have figured out the good life. Dinner time just seals the deal.

We moved. And we brought everyone.

350 San Benancio Road is home now, and our clients, clinicians, horses, goats, and pigs have more room to breathe, move, and heal than ever before. More pasture. More quiet. More space to do the work that actually matters.

This is what “The Long Way Home” looks like.

Big news from the EHC herd 🐴

After years of building something meaningful at 902 Monterey Salinas Highway, we are officially moving to our new home at 350 San Benancio Road.

This move is more than a change of address. It is the next chapter in a story that started with a few horses, a big vision, and a community that believed in the healing power of horses. The Long Way Home is not just the name of our capital campaign, it is exactly what this feels like.

We cannot wait to welcome you to the new space. Stay tuned for more details on retreats, tours, and what this means for our clients, our horses, and our future.

Run free Huck😍

It's a heartbreaking day on the farm. He died in my arms this morning.

Our clients heal our rescues. Our rescues heal our clients.

A horse who came to us shut down and waiting meets someone doing the same kind of work on themselves. They recognize each other. Something moves.

We’ve watched it happen hundreds of times in 11 years and it still stops us cold.

This is the work. This is why we’re here.

We are deeply grateful to the Pebble Beach Foundation for a $7,500 grant in support of our mission. Every dollar goes directly to equine-assisted psychotherapy services for youth right here in Monterey County.

The need is real. Nearly 40% of high school students report persistent sadness or hopelessness, and 1 in 5 has experienced major depression. Among teens who experienced a major depressive episode in the past year, 40% still received no mental health care.

At EHC, we meet kids where they are, alongside horses, in a healing environment that traditional therapy can’t always reach. Grants like this one make that possible for families who need it most.
Thank you, Pebble Beach Foundation, for investing in the mental health and futures of Monterey County youth. We are honored to be your partner in this work.
