Could your meals be calming your nervous system or stressing it out?

Your nervous system and digestion are more connected than you might think. When your body is in “fight or flight,” digestion can take a backseat, which may affect things like blood sugar regulation, hunger and fullness cues, digestion, and how satisfied you feel after eating.

Instead of focusing on whether you ate “perfectly,” try checking in with yourself:
• Was I satisfied?
• How does my body feel?
• What do I notice without judgment?

And before your next meal, try slowing things down with a few simple habits:
• Take a few slow breaths
• Put both feet on the floor
• Look around your environment
• Hum while cooking or getting your meal ready

Want to learn more? Comment PODCAST and we’ll send you our latest episode all about the connection between your nervous system, digestion, and blood sugar.

We asked our RDs: What’s one thing you wish more people knew about diabetes?

Their answers are a reminder that blood sugar is influenced by so much more than food.

• Your menstrual cycle can affect blood sugar levels
• Alcohol and exercise can have delayed effects on blood sugar
• Rice can absolutely be part of a balanced plate
• Slowing down and being present with your food can support a steadier blood sugar response
• Glycemic index doesn’t tell the whole story
• There are many factors that can affect blood sugar, and food is only one piece of the puzzle

Diabetes management is complex, and there isn’t one “perfect” way to manage your blood sugar.

Which one of these did you need the reminder about?

We love myth-busting around here, and one of the biggest myths we hear is that you need to cut out carbs to improve your A1c or reach your health goals.

The truth? You don’t.

Carbohydrates are your body’s preferred source of energy, and they can absolutely be part of a balanced eating pattern. Cutting them out often leaves people feeling less satisfied, more preoccupied with food, and can make healthy habits harder to maintain.

Instead of avoiding carbs, focus on what you can pair with them. Adding protein, fiber, and healthy fats can help support steadier blood sugar while keeping meals satisfying.

You don’t have to fear bread, rice, pasta, tortillas, or fruit. You just need a strategy that works with your life, not against it.

Which carb are you tired of hearing people tell you to avoid? Let us know below.

Meet our RD, Sarah! 👋🏽🍅

What if managing diabetes didn’t mean giving up the foods you love?

That’s exactly what Sarah wants her clients to know. She believes the best way of eating is one that fits your life, includes your favorite foods, and supports you through both the good days and the harder ones.

Instead of focusing on restriction or chasing the number on the scale, Sarah helps clients build small, realistic habits that add up over time. Because lasting change doesn’t come from being perfect. It comes from finding an approach you can actually enjoy and stick with.

One of her favorite parts of being a dietitian is helping people reconnect with foods that matter to them, including the cultural dishes and family recipes that are part of who they are.

Fun fact: If Sarah were a fruit, she’d be a tomato.
Sweet or savory, fruit or “vegetable,” it’s a little bit of everything, and that’s exactly why she loves it.

If you’re ready for personalized nutrition support that meets you where you are, Sarah would love to meet you.

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) has been surrounded by fear for years, but much of that fear comes from headlines that didn’t tell the whole story.

Here’s what we know today:

• The original Women’s Health Initiative study was widely misunderstood.
• For many healthy women who start HRT around menopause, the risk profile is very different than what many of us were originally told.
• In 2025, the FDA updated safety labeling for estrogen products, reflecting newer evidence.

Is HRT right for everyone? No. But is it something that should automatically be dismissed? Also no.

For many women, HRT can be life-changing, improving hot flashes, sleep, and overall quality of life. The most important thing is having an informed conversation with a healthcare provider who can help determine what’s right for you.
