A Simple Ayurvedic Morning Practice
If you practice Ayurveda, you may already know about tongue scraping. If not, this is one of the simplest ways to bring a little more awareness and care to your morning routine.
Overnight, the tongue naturally collects a coating of bacteria, food particles, and ama (metabolic waste). Gently scraping the tongue in the morning helps clear that coating before you eat or drink.
I like to think of it as giving your mouth — and your whole digestive system — a fresh start to the day.
In this short video, I’ll show you how to scrape your tongue properly and gently.
A few simple guidelines:
• Scrape first thing in the morning, before eating or drinking
• Use a tongue scraper rather than your toothbrush
• Start toward the back of the tongue and gently draw it forward
• A few passes are enough — there’s no need to scrape hard
• Rinse your scraper when you’re finished
It takes less than a minute, but it can become a lovely little ritual of dinacharya — the Ayurvedic daily practices that help us care for ourselves in simple, consistent ways.
Try it tomorrow morning and notice how you feel.
