Active listening, problem solving, humor and trust, acceptance and inclusion. At yesterday's Tasty Social Club, participants built on all of these components while increasing their networking and socializing skills. Finding what they have in common, utilizing strengths, and coming together around the table!

Celebrating Value and Talent

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month!

This year’s theme, “Celebrating Value and Talent,” recognizes something we see every day: people with disabilities bring skills, perspectives, experience and talent to workplaces and communities across Pennsylvania Department of Labor.

At MyCIL, we believe employment is about more than earning a paycheck. Meaningful work can be an important part of independence - creating opportunities to build skills, make connections, contribute to your community and pursue your own goals.

This month, we’ll be celebrating the talents of people with disabilities while highlighting the supports, experiences and opportunities that can help turn career goals into reality.
Talent is everywhere. Opportunity should be, too.

The Pennsylvania Statewide Independent Living Council (PA SILC) is developing the next Statewide Plan for Independent Living (SPIL) and wants to hear directly from Pennsylvanians with disabilities about the experiences, priorities, and needs that matter most.

💛 We were thrilled to host PGA TOUR professional and Northeast Pennsylvania native Brandon Matthews and his wife, Danielle, at MyCIL!

It was wonderful to welcome them to our Transitional Skills Center, introduce them to some of our students, and show them firsthand the impact their support is helping make.

As a proud beneficiary of the NEPA Invitational and Harmony for Hope, we’re incredibly grateful for Brandon and Danielle’s commitment to giving back to children and families throughout our NEPA community.

TSC Participants explored working hands on with reptiles and animals with Dr. Joseph Iacovazzi on site at Keystone College. From facing fears with grace and ease to diving deeper into curiosity, everyone took away a fondness and appreciation for the natural world.

Thank you Dr. Iacovazzi and students for having us, and for generously showcasing these fantastic creatures in an inclusive, understanding, and fascinating environment to explore.

The GUIDE (Guiding an Improved Dementia Experience) Model is designed to help people living with dementia remain safely in their homes and communities while also supporting the family and unpaid caregivers who make that possible.

Through participating GUIDE programs, services can include:

💜 Care coordination and a dedicated care navigator
📞 24/7 access to a support line
🤝 Caregiver education and support
🏠 Connections to community-based resources
⏰ Up to $2,500 per year in respite services for eligible participants, which may include in-home respite, adult day programs, or facility-based respite

For families caring for someone with dementia, having help navigating services - and having an opportunity to take a break from caregiving - can make a meaningful difference.
