Chiropractic Myths: Let’s Set the Record Straight!
There are a lot of misconceptions about chiropractic care. Let’s break down a few of the most common myths:
Myth #1: “Chiropractic is for adults only.”
Reality: Chiropractic care can be provided to people of different ages, including children, when appropriate. Care should always be age appropriate, gentle, and provided by a properly trained chiropractor.
Myth #2: “Chiropractic only treats back pain.”
Reality: Chiropractors commonly help people with musculoskeletal concerns involving the back, neck, joints, and movement. Care may also focus on improving mobility and function, not just addressing back pain.
Myth #3: “Chiropractors aren’t real doctors.”
Reality: Chiropractors are licensed healthcare professionals who complete specialized doctoral-level education and clinical training. They are doctors of chiropractic (DCs)
Myth #4: “Chiropractic is just cracking bones.”
Reality: Chiropractic care involves much more than the sound you may hear during an adjustment. Depending on the patient, care can include joint adjustments, mobility work, soft-tissue techniques, exercise recommendations, and education.
Myth #5: “You have to receive chiropractic care for life.”
Reality: There is no requirement that someone receive chiropractic care forever. Your care plan should be based on your individual needs, goals, and progress. Some people seek care for a specific concern, while others choose ongoing wellness-focused care.
