Pilates is not intended to be a weight-loss program. It is not intended to be a cardio program. It is not intended to work to your 1RM.
It is meant to keep you doing the things you love to do!
For me, it has been a cross-traing program to my dance career. A means to prevent injuries, condition my ligaments and tendons, support my joints, and be a source for active recovery on days I am sore or fatigued. It keeps me going when I need some time to decompress and not over-stress my body and mind. It actually helps me recalibrate - to push my worries aside and have a clear mind to focus on what actually needs to get done.
Pilates keeps me strong, mobile, and conditioned. I choreograph on the daily, teach multiple styles of movement weekly, and go for walks/hikes regularly. Pilates resets all my life tasks and keeps me on track.
My power and strength is mostly my natural ability, but my knees, hips, and ankles thank me when I take time to isolate and condition them outside of crazy repertoire.
If you're looking for something that is low impact, keeps you going, and makes you feel you're absolute best - you might also enjoy a class here at the studio. (Even if you don't have a natural ability to jump or perform wild choreography! - I'll keep that out of your classes;)
