“WE ALL WE GOT: 15 Years of Community, Care, and Collective Power”
Day 2: THE MYTH
For generations, Black mothers were told that breastfeeding would spoil our babies—that holding them too much, responding to every cry, or allowing them to nurse for comfort would make them overly dependent.
But the truth is: babies cannot be spoiled by love.
Responding to our babies helps them feel safe. Holding them strengthens connection. Breastfeeding provides nourishment, comfort, protection, bonding, and healthy attachment styles.
For 15 years, our community has worked to replace harmful myths with truth. We have cared for one another, reclaimed our stories, and collectively taken a stand for Black mothers, Black babies, and Black breastfeeding.
We also acknowledge and appreciate our non-Black partners, allies, and champions. We are grateful for your support and your willingness to stand beside us.
Still, there are historical wounds, cultural barriers, and present-day realities that are specific to Black women. In those moments, WE ALL WE GOT to walk one another through every harsh reality of the past, celebrate the progress of the present, and prepare the way for a brighter future.
A future filled with supported mothers, nourished babies, restored confidence, and beautiful breastfeeding journeys.
We are confronting the myths.
We are reclaiming the truth.
We are caring for one another.
We are moving forward—together.
This is community.
This is care.
This is collective power.
