3 days left! What initially drew me to this particular gong was the aesthetic: the colors, the design, the whole look of it. But the sound is what makes it truly special.

I used to think gongs were jarring, and I couldn’t imagine how they could possibly be relaxing. But the more I experienced them, the more I began to understand their magic. There are very few sounds that can bring me into such a deep, heightened state of rest as a gong. So it’s no surprise that this one is called a Deep Gong. 💫

Grotto Sonora creates these handcrafted gongs in various models, metal alloys, and sizes, with harmonic tunings. Each one is handmade in Italy. I found this beauty through Gongs Unlimited.

Have you ever had a sound that grew on you over time?

After a long 90+ degree day, I was definitely ready for some grounding and cooling. Today I reached for the larger three Tibetan singing bowls, representing the lower energy centers: root, sacral, and solar plexus.

These traditionally handcrafted, hand-hammered bowls were recently brought back from India by . Tibetan singing bowls are said to be made from seven metals, sometimes associated with the seven chakras. Their rich vibrations can linger long after the bowl is struck, creating a soundscape that invites the body and mind to slow down.

There’s something especially grounding about these deeper tones. 💫

Do these sounds help you feel more grounded?

With my cultural background, this sound immediately resonated with me, like it was planted somewhere in my ancestry.

This is a very simple six-hole flute from Singing Tree Flutes , reminiscent of the recorder many of us played in elementary school. But it can do so much more. Tuned to the Hijaz scale in high D at 440 Hz, it has that unmistakable melody that I instantly connect with.

Sound familiar? “Pump It” by the Black Eyed Peas uses a variation of the centuries-old Hijaz scale. Can you hear it now?🎶

Close your eyes for a moment and listen… what does this sound remind you of? To me, it’s like a soft rush of bird feathers. 🪶

The Chakapa is traditionally used in Amazonian healing ceremonies to accompany and guide spiritual journeys. It’s typically made from dried leaves. I use mine during sessions and sound baths with the intention of cleansing and clearing the space. When shaken with intention, its rhythmic sound can be deeply soothing and invite us to turn inward.

This is also the only instrument I’ve made myself. I had an authentic Chakapa handcrafted in Peru a few years ago, but it was incredibly delicate and fell apart quickly when I tried transporting it. So I made my own using synthetic materials, but the intention behind it remains the same, and I’ve been using it ever since. 💚

What does this sound bring up for you? 🌿

Does the voice count as sound healing? Yes! 🎶

I joke sometimes that I’ve spent all this money on all these instruments, and then someone will tell me their favorite part of a sound bath was when I was singing. 😂

It’s not because I’m a professional singer. I’m not. But singing connects me to my soul, and I think that feeling can come through and help us connect to others on an emotional level, even if the voice isn’t perfect.

The voice is such a powerful way to express ourselves in our own way and explore the throat chakra, especially if you’re someone who tends to hold things in or has a harder time expressing yourself. Maybe it’s one of our most important instruments of all.

So this one is for my ’90s babies, and really for anyone who needs the reminder:

You are so very special exactly as you are. 🤍

In honor of today’s full moon and eclipse, I’m sharing this ceremonial drum from Southbaysalts.

I love sounds that mimic nature or our own internal rhythms, especially the heartbeat. There’s something incredibly powerful (and poetic!) about a steady drumbeat for grounding and settling the body. And with this eclipse energy, we need some grounding!

Before playing, the drum is gently rubbed to warm and tune it. This is also traditionally seen as a way of greeting the drum, almost like shaking hands before beginning.

In many Indigenous traditions, drums hold deep cultural and spiritual significance, representing the heartbeat of Mother Earth and being used in ceremony, healing, gathering, and prayer.

What do you notice in your body when you hear a steady drumbeat? 🌕💫
