❶ FIGHT ❷ FLIGHT ❸ FREEZE ❹ FAWN 🤔 Which of these responses do you find yourself defaulting to the most when stress takes over? Let’s support one another in the comments below. 👇💛
"Ever wonder why your brain shuts down, or why you suddenly feel the urge to over-apologize or argue when stress hits? These aren't personality flaws—they are deeply rooted survival strategies hardwired into your nervous system.
Understanding how your body reacts to stress or past trauma is the very first step toward healing and finding peace.
Here is a simple breakdown of the four primary trauma responses—Fight, Flight, Freeze, and Fawn—and what they actually look like in daily life:
❶ FIGHT. You become defensive, argumentative, or angry because your nervous system believes it must fight to stay safe.
❷ FLIGHT. You stay constantly busy, overwork, overthink, or avoid difficult emotions because slowing down feels unsafe.
❸ FREEZE. You shut down emotionally, feel numb, struggle to make decisions, or feel unable to act during stressful situations.
❹ FAWN. You people-please, over-apologize, or ignore your own needs to avoid conflict and gain acceptance.
❺ You switch between responses. Different situations can trigger different survival patterns depending on what once kept you safe.
❻ These responses are automatic. They are nervous system survival strategies, not conscious choices or personality flaws.
❼ Long-term trauma can keep these responses active. Even after the danger has passed, your brain and body may continue reacting as though you're still under threat.
❽ Healing begins with awareness. Recognizing your dominant trauma response helps you understand yourself with compassion instead of shame.
❾ Recovery is about creating safety. As your nervous system learns that you are safe, these survival responses gradually become less intense, allowing healthier ways of coping to develop."
