In Missouri the School Protection Officer program has been the law for over a decade. Currently, there are almost 100 SPOs protecting our children in over 45 school districts in the state. There have been no negative events related to this program. Why every district is not participating is a question for every school board.

We have 30 years of data on these events, they are often planned years in advance, they will get in, they will shoot people until someone makes them stop. The average event is over in five minutes or less, the average police response is 7-9 minutes. It is simple math.

While all facts are not known yet, multiple outlets are reporting the shooter may have been stopped by an intervention capable person who was on scene. We are finishing up class #16 of the School Protection Officer program certification on November 1, 2026. Does your school have intervention capabilities in every building where students are present? There is no logical excuse for not protecting our children.
