So proud of her!!!❤️🫶🏼 Patricia Alsup Revive and Thrive with Patricia Alsup RN, BSN
The post I never thought I’d write…
For the last month, I’ve been sharing pieces of my personal wellness routine with you.
I’ve talked about NAD+, CoQ10, Vitamin D, Biotin and Tri-Immune.
But there is one thing I intentionally left out.
Tirzepatide.
And honestly… I was nervous to share this.
A couple of years ago when these medications first became popular, I was completely against them.
My immediate thought was, “Okay, great. You lost the weight. But what are you going to do when you come off of it? Have you actually learned how to live a healthy lifestyle?”
I was seeing people lose massive amounts of weight in what seemed like a very short period of time, and I didn’t think that was healthy or sustainable.
Then I started my business.
I began educating myself. I learned that these medications are about more than simply making the number on the scale go down. They affect pathways involved in appetite, hunger, satiety, and blood sugar regulation, and they’re being used as part of the treatment of obesity and other metabolic conditions. The more I learned, the more I realized that I had originally looked at these medications as simply a way to lose weight.
I was missing the bigger picture.
And eventually… I changed my mind.
About 5 years ago I reached my highest weight.
I lost 50 pounds completely on my own.
Then last August, I finally decided to try tirzepatide myself.
One year later, I’ve lost an additional 56 pounds.
And yes, I feel so much better. I mean… carrying around 56 fewer pounds will do that. 😂❤️
But something else has changed.
My relationship with food.
I’m eating significantly smaller portions. I’m more aware of what I’m eating. And I’ve learned that I don’t need nearly as much food as I once thought I did.
And THIS is the part I wish more people understood.
Tirzepatide is not designed to make you lose weight overnight.
It isn’t a quick fix.
And I don’t believe healthy weight loss should be about seeing how quickly you can make the number on the scale disappear.
We didn’t put this weight on overnight, and we don’t want to lose it overnight.
For me, this has been about learning how to make changes that I can actually maintain.
The medication is a tool.
It doesn’t replace learning about nutrition.
It doesn’t replace movement.
It doesn’t replace making better choices.
And it doesn’t replace building a lifestyle you can actually live with.
I started this journey with a completely different opinion about these medications.
Now, after experiencing it for myself, I can honestly say:
I was wrong about some of what I thought I knew.
And I’m okay admitting that.
I’m still learning. I’m still working on myself. And I’m still trying to do this the healthy way—not the fastest way.
So, there it is.
The part of my wellness journey I wasn’t sure I was ready to share. ❤️
If you’re considering a weight-loss medication, please don’t look at my 56-pound loss and think, “That’s how much I should lose.”
Your journey is yours.
Slow. Sustainable. Healthy.
That’s what I’m aiming for. 💚
