Why Purple is a Good Sign After Your Angioma Treatment

Pulse dye lasers are often used for treating vascular lesions like angiomas, which are benign tumors made of blood vessels. When the laser's energy hits the red pigment in the blood vessels, it converts to heat and destroys the vessel. A common and expected post-treatment response is a purplish bruise like mark, also called "purpura." This is a normal and temporary side effect that indicates a successful treatment.

This patient found laser tattoo removal to be very painful so Dr. Ibrahimi numbed her prior to treatment. She barely flinched with injections but had a very hard time either tattoo removal without numbing.

Ever notice a small red spot that just won’t go away? It could be an angioma. These are harmless but bothersome and the PDL laser is one of the best tools we have to treat them. The laser targets blood vessels beneath the skin, causing the spot to fade over time. You might see some temporary purpling right after and that means it’s working! It can take 1-3 treatments but many times it goes away with just one. These are benign so completely fine to leave alone as well!

Anyone else notice the 💨 at the end? Spider angiomas are not caused by spiders and cherry angiomas have nothing to do with cherries. These are benign growths that are perfectly fine to leave as is or remove based on PERSONAL preference. For smaller ones, it often only takes one treatment.
