Full Sturgeon Moon & Partial Lunar Eclipse in Pisces

The August Full Moon rises as the Sturgeon Moon, a name rooted in the late-summer season when these ancient fish were once plentiful in the Great Lakes and surrounding waters. Sturgeon have survived for more than 100 million years, moving through changing waters while the world above them transformed again and again.

This year, the Sturgeon Moon arrives with a deep partial lunar eclipse. Earth’s shadow will cross most of the Moon, temporarily changing what we see while the Moon itself remains whole. There is something powerful in that image. A shadow can alter our view without altering what is true.

This moon carries that same kind of clarity. Things that have been shifting quietly beneath the surface may become easier to recognize. An old pattern, a changing relationship, a decision already taking shape, or simply the realization that something no longer belongs where it once did.

Late summer is already a season of transition. The days slowly shorten, the harvest begins, and nature starts revealing what this season has produced. We do the same. We begin to see what grew, what endured, and what has reached its natural ending.

The sturgeon survived because it learned to move through changing water. This moon reminds us that we can too. We do not have to carry every old thing into a new season simply because it once belonged to us.
