Rachel here to show you another tool we use for clients both in and out of the hospital: Nitrous oxide! (Aka Laughing Gas)

According to the Journal of Midwifery & Women’s Health, “Nitrous oxide labor analgesia is safe for the mother, fetus, and neonate... It is simple to administer, does not interfere with the release and function of endogenous oxytocin, and has no adverse effects on the normal physiology and progress of labor” (Rooks, 2011).

By not disrupting the release of oxytocin, nitrous oxide:
🩵 Does not affect infant alertness during the early bonding period known as the Golden Hour
🩵 Does not affect breastfeeding
🩵 Does not increase the need for neonatal resuscitation

⭐️Harnesses Gravity- Vertically aligns the birth canal and accelerates the baby’s descent.

⭐️Expands Pelvic Space- Flexes the legs to widen the pelvis, increasing available pelvic space by 28% to 30%. 

⭐️Eases Pushing Effort- like sitting on a toilet, it triggers a stronger, instinctive urge to push. 

**Midwives typically recommend alternating between the stool and other dynamic positions to balance your comfort and safety

We received this beautiful gift from two of our patients!! So beautiful that two family members, a mother and a daughter, both delivered three days apart! Baby girl #1 was the first grandchild, and baby girl #2 was born a brand new aunt!
