"People ask why I work on both humans and animals. I’ve never seen them as separate work. An animal can’t tell you where it hurts; it shows you in a shortened stride or a braced jaw, and twenty years of listening that way taught me to hear it in people too. The nervous system is the nervous system. A body stuck in survival mode doesn’t heal, whether it’s standing in a stall or resting in my healing studio. MagnaWave PEMF and Aurawell meets them both in the same place: cellular, quiet, no force required. I don’t fix anyone. I create the conditions where the body remembers it already knows how. I love to mention MagnaWave and Aurawell because their reputation speaks volumes" - Tru Wellness -Tru Equine Therapy LLC

Sugar and season changing temps and muzzles

Let’s talk about grazing muzzles, honestly.

Muzzles have a real place. A well-fitted muzzle can cut a horse’s grass intake by a large amount, and for a metabolic or laminitis-prone horse that can be a genuinely useful tool. Their biggest advantage is that they let a horse keep the things that matter for health: turnout, movement, and time with the herd. A horse in a muzzle is still walking, still socializing, still keeping its gut and its feet moving, and that movement itself helps the body handle sugar better. Used part-time, during the high-sugar hours, and fitted correctly, a muzzle can be part of a smart plan.

But a muzzle is a workaround, not a fix, and it is not the right answer for every horse. It limits how much a horse takes in, but the horse is still standing on the very sugar that triggers laminitis, just getting less of it. Full-time muzzling also carries concerns worth weighing: rubs and sores, frustration and stress, wear on the incisors over time, and trouble regulating heat in warm weather. There are also concerns about possible effects on jaw and facial bone development in younger horses that are still growing, and possible TMJ strain in horses of any age, especially older ones. None of that means muzzles are bad. It means they are not something to leave on a horse around the clock without thought.

This is where a dry lot earns its place. Instead of muzzling a horse against the cause, a dry lot removes the cause, while still letting the horse move, socialize, and eat appropriate tested low-sugar forage. The healthiest setups often use both: a dry lot as the foundation, with muzzled turnout on safe pasture when conditions allow. Lush green grass looks beautiful, but it is not safe for every horse, and the goal is always the same. Protect the horse from the sugar without taking away the movement and connection it needs to thrive.

Every horse is different, and these decisions belong with your whole team. Your veterinarian on the metabolic and laminitis side, your farrier on the feet, your dentist on the teeth and jaw, and your barn manager on how turnout and dry lots work day to day. If you are not sure where your horse falls, that team conversation is the place to start.

DSLD asks a hard question of every owner. If there is no cure, what is left to do?

The answer is not nothing.

A horse living with DSLD is still a horse who can be more comfortable, better supported, and calmer in its body. PEMF and red light therapy are used to encourage circulation to the hard to reach lower limb, to support cellular energy where tissue is struggling, and to ease a body carrying constant strain.

This work does not reverse the disease. Nothing does. What it offers is quality of life, held gently alongside your veterinarian, for as long as that is fair to the horse.

That is a goal worth showing up for.

Call Tru Wellness at 484 832 4457 to talk through supportive care for your horse.

Stay Tru to yourself.

He's the reason I do everything.
Tru is the reason I won't stop fighting for horses to get the care they deserve. He's the reason I don't give my energy to the people who've tried to bring me down.
He's why I try to be better, keep learning, and keep evolving.
I'm here to help others and animals, and that's exactly what I'm going to keep doing, because that's what this horse showed me.
No matter the odds stacked against him. No matter the wrongs done to him. He stayed stoic and loved every minute of life, right up to the end.
One day I'll share his story. But not today.

Tru Rhythm

Every living body keeps time. People and animals alike run on a circadian rhythm, an internal clock set deep in the brain by the suprachiasmatic nucleus. That clock tells melatonin, cortisol, serotonin, and dopamine when to rise and fall across the day, and it does not stop at the brain. Nearly every cell carries its own clock, timing repair, hormone release, and energy production to the light and dark around it. When the rhythm holds, the body rests, repairs, and resets. When it drifts, everything downstream feels it.
Horses live by the same clock. They reach REM sleep only when they lie down, and they need only about thirty minutes of it a day, yet they will not take it unless they feel safe. Stress, harsh light, a restless environment, or a nervous system stuck on high alert can pull a horse, or a person, out of rhythm long before pain ever enters the picture.
This is where MagnaWave, AuraWell, and the ROC Red Light come in. MagnaWave PEMF sends pulsed electromagnetic fields through the tissues to support circulation, cellular energy, and the shift out of fight or flight into the rest and repair state the body needs to settle. AuraWell, its sister technology, brings that same cellular support into a form made for gentle, everyday use. And the ROC Red Light works through the light spectrum itself. Red and near infrared wavelengths feed the mitochondria, the energy centers inside every cell, and unlike the blue light of screens, they calm the evening without suppressing melatonin, so the body can find its way back toward sleep.
Together they do not force rest. They remove the static, quiet the alarm, and help the body remember its own rhythm. Whether it is you or your horse, alignment starts with the nervous system.

What is equine osteopathy, and how does Natalie look at your horse or animal ?

Osteopathy is a whole body approach that works from one simple truth. The body is a connected unit, where every joint, structure, and layer of soft tissue is in relationship with the rest, so when one area loses mobility the whole system compensates. That is where the trouble you actually see often begins. Natalie starts with her eyes, watching how your horse stands, carries weight, and moves before a single hand is placed. Then the assessment moves to touch, reading the frame through the spine, the limbs, and the tissue, feeling for restrictions and asking why they are there. Nothing is treated in isolation, because in the horse nothing lives in isolation.

And this is where every other modality earns its place. Osteopathy restores mobility and balance to the structure, and the supporting work carries that change forward. PEMF and ROC calm inflammation and wake up circulation. Craniosacral therapy and Reiki settle the nervous system so the body can hold the release instead of guarding against it. The trusted practitioners Natalie partners with, from bodyworkers and chiropractors to farriers and acupuncturists, each add their piece so your horse has a whole team behind them. One approach traces the pattern to its source, the rest help it hold. Together they do what none can do alone.

Osteopathy is coming soon to Tru Wellness. Call Natalie at 484-832-4457

Mitochondria and Pemf and Roc red light

Deep inside nearly every cell sits the mitochondria. These are the tiny engines of the body, and their whole job is to take the food you eat and the oxygen you breathe and turn it into a usable fuel called ATP. ATP is the actual currency of energy. Every heartbeat, every muscle contraction, every thought, and every act of healing runs on it. When the cell makes ATP freely, the body has energy to move, recover, and repair. When production slows, that shortage shows up as fatigue, sluggish recovery, muscle loss, and a body that struggles to bounce back. In a horse it can look like dullness, poor recovery after work, and a system that never quite refills the tank.

This is where the ROC Red Light does its most important work. Specific wavelengths of red and near infrared light travel into the tissue and are absorbed by an enzyme deep inside the mitochondria called cytochrome c oxidase. Think of that enzyme as a key station on the cellular energy line. When it receives the light the whole line moves more efficiently, and the cell produces more ATP with less waste. More available energy means more fuel for recovery, for tissue repair, and for calm steady function. The ROC delivers those wavelengths in a gentle, non invasive session that the body simply absorbs.

PEMF works right alongside it. Pulsed electromagnetic fields support healthy cellular signaling, circulation, and the movement of nutrients and waste in and out of the cell. That matters because a mitochondria can only perform as well as its environment allows. By supporting circulation and cellular exchange, PEMF helps create the exact conditions the mitochondria need to keep producing energy. Where red light recharges the engine directly, PEMF helps keep the whole system supplied and flowing.

Used together they are a true recharge. Not a mask laid over a symptom, but real support for the power source underneath it. When the cell has energy, the whole body has more to give.
