#🦩 Growth charts are tools used by Pediatricians to give an idea of a child’s trend in growth. This means that a single measurement is not the goal, but rather a review of multiple measurements can detect a risk in your child. Please, don’t miss appointments!!!

There are 2 main growth charts to track children:
🌻Who or World Health Organization which includes breastfeeding children and multiple populations. This one is most reliable in the first few years of life.
🌼Cdc or Center for Disease Control and Prevention which is widely used after 2 years of age

⬆️⬇️⤵️Failure of gaining weight or problems with rapid weight again? Make sure you ask your Pediatrician about evaluation and possibly review. A lot of malabsorption problems, conditions like constipation, or poor caloríe intake can be the reason for weight problems in a child.

⬆️⬇️🔀Failure of maintaining linear growth? Kid growing too slow or too quickly? Yes, ask your favorite pediatric endocrinologist!

Time travel time!!! (History time)

The Screening Test (NBS) was created by Dr. Robert Guthrie in the 1960s to help detect (PKU), a deadly metabolic disease. Even today, some physicians refer to the NBS test as the PKU test.

The NBS test is a heelprick sample performed between 24 to 48 hours of a baby’s life, but it includes between 50 to 80 conditions!!! If the test comes back positive, the Department of Health is able to notify your Pediatrician and confirmatory testing with early treatment can be done swiftly. This has ensured that survival of positive results is over 90% over 5 years.

Why does your likes this test? This has helped with early diagnosis of Congenital Hypothyroidism and Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia prior to having any symptoms. Science rocks!
