📚✨ There’s Always More Under the Behavior
Today’s ELA lesson reminded us that behavior is communication.
One kiddo fought the ELA lesson—and underneath that resistance was a past upsetting moment. While writing a story about a duck, they wanted to give the duck a very bad ending. As we slowed down and engaged with the story, we discovered the connection: a real memory of being bitten by a duck at the park.
That moment changed everything.
Instead of simply seeing defiance, we were able to see the history underneath it. When we take the time to connect, listen, and get curious, the behavior starts to make sense.
And every learner is different.
Another learner needed something completely different: quiet, space, and time to trace their letters independently. No pressure. No rushing. Just the freedom to learn at their own pace.
💛 At TFT Clubhouse, we believe learning isn't one-size-fits-all.
Sometimes the lesson is ELA.
Sometimes the lesson is regulation.
Sometimes the lesson is connection.
And sometimes the most important thing we can do is slow down enough to understand.
We don't just ask, “Why won't they learn?”
We ask, “What is this learner communicating—and what do they need from us?”
