🩺✨ Chief Resident Spotlight: Esther Yoo ✨🩺
Meet Esther, one of our Chief Residents in Anesthesiology! A graduate of SUNY Downstate College of Medicine, Esther loves caring for patients at one of the most vulnerable moments of their lives, helping them feel safe and comfortable heading into surgery 💙
A few things we love about Esther:
🎓 Med school: SUNY Downstate College of Medicine
🫁 Favorite rotation: the ICU, for the complexity of critical illness and the chance to follow patients and their families over time
💬 Her advice to new interns & residents: “Take every opportunity to learn, ask questions, and remember the people you’re working with. Those relationships will get you through the harder days.”
🫀 What’s next: staying at Montefiore for a Critical Care Medicine fellowship, followed by a Cardiac Anesthesiology fellowship!
🐱 Off the clock: reading, playing the piano, long walks, and lounging at home with her two cats

A huge thank you to Drs. Johnny Tran, Lorena Patrice Caslib, and Karina Gritsenko for leading a neuraxial workshop for our CA-1 residents this weekend!

Pain fellows and senior residents paired up with CA-1s to walk through spinals, epidurals, and combined spinal-epidurals, including some hands-on loss-of-resistance practice with lemons 🍋💉

And of course, Dr. Tran kept everyone fueled with Popup Bagels 🥯😋

What a week at in San Diego! 🌊☀️Congratulations to everyone from Montefiore Einstein Anesthesiology who presented their research and led workshops, panels, and PBLDs at this year’s ASA Annual Meeting. We’re proud of the work our team shared, from critical care and perioperative outcomes to OB, pediatric, cardiac, and regional anesthesia.

🏆 A special shoutout to Dr. Maira Rudolph and Dr. Lorenz Droege, whose work was selected for the Best Abstracts session!

💙 And a huge thank you to everyone who came by our Residency Program Open House to meet the medical students interested in joining us. It was great to connect with so many future anesthesiologists!

🩹 Favorite rotation: PAT (Pre-Admission Testing) — his favorite kind of care starts long before the OR
💬 His advice to new interns & residents: “Give yourself some grace as you learn... residency is about getting a little better each day.”

This week, we welcome our new CA-1s 💉👩🏽‍⚕️👨🏾‍⚕️🧑🏻‍⚕️💊! The categorical residents have spent two months with us in the ORs and simulation lab, trained by our outstanding residents, fellows, and faculty. They are more than ready to hit the ground running 🏃🏃🏽‍♀️🏃🏽‍♂️. We’re also welcoming our advanced residents as they get acquainted with Montefiore. With this much talent in one room, our expectations are through the roof 💫 We can’t wait to see what you all accomplish over these next three years!!!

🎉 Last week we celebrated our CA-3 class’s graduation from residency at the beautiful Glen Island Harbour Club, surrounded by co-residents, attendings, fellows, program leadership, and the family and friends who supported them along the way. So grateful for the awards, the laughs, and the memories made over these three years. As this incredible group heads off to their next chapters — some starting as attendings in private and academic practice, others continuing on to fellowship (a big shoutout to those staying with us at Montefiore for cardiac, pediatric, and regional anesthesia!) — it’s been an honor to be part of their training. Thank you to the entire Montefiore Einstein Anesthesia family for making this such a meaningful journey. Here’s to the next chapter for this talented group ✨
