Moving Forward Safe Place Sometimes when you are ready to move forward a single look ahead makes you nervous. Come to a safe place to think and plan and then MOVE FORWARD.

It might be danger, it might just be complicated or it might remind you of old, unpleasant memories. Opened as a service of the Carbondale Church of Christ to the community, Moving Forward Safe Place Incorporated became an independent, non-profit corporation moving toward status as a recognized 501(c)(3) public benefit organization. We re-opened in September of 2025 under a new Board of Directors to expand our reach and sources of support.

After closing on April 28, we have been moving out and cleaning up for the next tenant in this space. The Resale Shop closed last week and donated all the leftover inventory to Family and Children's Thrift Store.

Closing a non-profit in the State of Oklahoma is a highly regulated process that involves the office of Attorney General to make sure funds remain in the non-profit world. After our inventory donation, the board will return any leftover funds to our parent organization, Carbondale Church of Christ.

By the end of June, this page and the Resale Shop page will be deleted. I will share contact information with you before that time for those wishing to remain in touch.

We have completed day one of the clearance of our furniture and fixtures but one of longest roads we took with a guest ended in them moving into permanent housing last Friday! Special thanks to Stephanie for doing all the hard work and relationship development that brought this about. Also to Family and Children's Services for sending their teams to us this past month, including this success story as our friend moved from shopping carts to a house. What a blessing!

The board of directors, employees, and volunteers at Moving Forward Safe Place have enjoyed serving this community these past four years. We regret to inform you that operations ceased on April 28th at the close of business after anchor tenants complained about gatherings of people on the concrete seat out front.

Personal belongings and mail delivered at this address will be available for a limited time. Furnishings and supplies will be sold beginning Monday, May 4 until the space is empty. The Resale Shop (which is part of Moving Forward) will have a close-out sale at 50% off this week next door. Hours are 10am to 4:30 pm.

We appreciate the support received from our community. Organizers continue to be concerned about the needs of our neighbors and will seek other opportunities to unite our community in serving these needs.
