Not fully endorsing the blanket “Let Them” methodology, but I do agree with this.

Invisible pain is often neglected or the recipient of medical trauma, which is why it takes approximately 7-10 years on average for women with serious illnesses to get -

1) An appropriate specialist. Often times chronically ill & mental health folks get tossed around the medical system trying to find just SOMEONE who will listen and have the means to help.

2) Accurate diagnostics that isn’t just “you need to lose weight and your autoimmune disease symptoms will go away” 🙄;

3) Appropriate treatment. Which sometimes can be done with that great provider you finally found. Sometimes it has to be done in another facility, another state, heck another country in some instances.

4) Appropriate ongoing maintenance (which goes far beyond the 7-10 year average) - and can put a client in a sudden onset tailspin when -insurance changes, -age/retirement/moving workplace of the provider, -office staff appropriateness in addition to the efficacy of a good treatment.

There are barriers left and right. Let’s believe clients when they are telling us about their lived experience.
