World Breastfeeding Week is a great time to talk about something that often gets overlooked: what breastfeeding does for the mother's heart.

Research shows that moms who breastfeed may have a lower risk of developing high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease later in life. The benefits truly go both ways.

A few reminders for new and expecting moms:
❀️ Postpartum heart health deserves as much attention as prenatal care
❀️ Chest pain, shortness of breath, or severe headaches after birth should never be ignored
❀️ Rest, hydration, and gentle movement support recovery for your heart and body
❀️ If you had any complications during pregnancy, share that history with your doctor going forward

New mamas: you spend so much time taking care of everyone else. Take care of your heart too.

Taking care of your heart doesn't have to be complicated. πŸ’™

Four habits that make a real difference:
πŸ₯— Eat nutritious, balanced meals
πŸ’ͺ Exercise and stay active
🚭 Avoid smoking and ni****ne
πŸ₯€ Cut back on sugary drinks and alcohol

None of these require a drastic overnight change. Pick one, build it into your routine, and go from there. Small steps done consistently are what actually stick, and what actually protect your heart over time.

Which one of these four do you find hardest to keep up? Tell us in the comments. πŸ‘‡

You don't need a gym membership to take care of your heart. Your living room works just fine.

The hardest part of working out at home isn't the workout. It's starting, and then keeping it going past week one. Here's what helps:

βœ… Start light β€” don't go all in on day one. A 10-minute session you finish beats a 45-minute one you quit halfway through.
βœ… Find something that motivates you β€” a playlist, a YouTube workout, a friend to check in with. Whatever keeps you coming back.
βœ… Reward yourself β€” finishing a workout is worth celebrating. Build in something to look forward to after.
βœ… Pick an exercise you enjoy β€” if you hate running, don't run. Walk, dance, stretch. Movement counts no matter what it looks like.
βœ… Set out your clothes and equipment the night before β€” removing that one excuse makes it a lot easier to show up.

Consistency beats intensity every single time when it comes to heart health.

Building a heart-healthy life doesn't happen all at once. It's built routine by routine, week by week. πŸ—“οΈ

We're curious about what that looks like for you and your community.

What routines do you do every week to help keep your heart healthy?

Maybe it's a morning walk. A specific meal you cook every Sunday. Checking your blood pressure on the same day each week. A workout you never skip.
Whatever it is, we want to hear it. Drop your answer in the comments, your habit might be exactly what someone else needs to start their ownπŸ’™

This week is World Breastfeeding Week, and we want to take a moment to talk about something that doesn't come up enough: maternal heart health.

Pregnancy and the postpartum period place significant demands on a woman's cardiovascular system. Research shows that breastfeeding may offer some protective benefits for the mother's heart health over time, and that women who experience complications during pregnancy, like preeclampsia or gestational hypertension, face a higher risk of heart disease later in life.

If you're a new mom, or know one, here are a few things worth knowing:

❀️ Postpartum blood pressure changes are common and worth monitoring
❀️ Rest, hydration, and gentle movement support heart recovery after delivery
❀️ Chest pain, shortness of breath, or severe headaches after birth should never be ignored

New moms deserve care too. πŸ’™
