A little duck update! (Last video got cut short!) We have three ducks that have decided to sit on some eggs! Marigold (Goldie), Lilabet (Lily) and Delilah (Dilly). They are co nesting which is just the most adorable thing you have ever seen! And also increases the odds that we will get ducklings! Mama ducks have to sit on the eggs to incubate them for about 28 days-rarely getting up for even food or water. Sitting on the eggs like this creates the perfect temperature and humidity for successful incubation. So eggs can only be left unattended for very short periods of time. Runner ducks aren’t always the perfect mamas and it’s tough work and a big sacrifice to hatch ducklings so they may abandon their eggs for various reasons before they have hatched. But when all three have decided to take on the job they can split the work!

Isn’t this how motherhood should always be?! Clove -the drake and his fave girlfriend Juniper (Junie) are often seen sitting at the front door guarding their family. (Side note: Junie has an injury and is being treated for a sore leg and mild limp so we are glad she hasn’t gotten the motherhood itch yet since she needs her strength for recovery and healing right now).

This spring, despite a busier than ever calendar and opening Briar Stone Apothecary for some regular hours (Thursdays and Fridays from noon-5!) I’ve promised myself to slow down and enjoy this fleeting Vermont growing season.

It’s usually over in the blink of an eye and I’m left only with some gardening wins and plenty more losses, a bit of market money socked away in a drawer to get me through winter and a very sore back. I often have to scroll through photos to remind myself what happened over the summer.

This year I’ll take more iced tea breaks between weeding beds to lounge on bales of straw and watch the ducks swim. I’ll say yes to more company to wander the garden paths and exchange growing tips with. I’ll pause when I hear the Veery’s song pierce the dusk and remember that its evening serenade means it’s time to start thinking about a decent dinner and not more cold leftovers. I’ll walk the market fields in bare feet and a sun hat pretending that I’m a tourist for a moment; exclaiming over ripe tomatoes and filling my basket with fresh greens and homemade soaps from my fellow vendors. And I’ll have my bathing suit at the ready to stop at more waterfalls and swimming holes on the way home from the bank or the store. And I’ll take pictures of every single rainbow I see no matter how faint, no matter how common.

Because the work is hard and the to do list is long but awe isn’t something I ever want to take for granted. Not everyone is lucky enough to live in a place as beautiful as this, where the earth seems to literally explode with joy and color each June and makes my breath catch. A place where food grows abundantly, and the water is pristine. A place where deer feel safe enough to leave their babies tucked into grassy hillsides while they forage nearby and everyone I know is cultivating firefly habitats. A place where you can truly call neighbors friends.

And that’s worth pausing for. Every time.

It was an ethereal and magical evening at Briar Stone Apothecary last night! I co taught a Tea and Tarot workshop with

We sipped Mugwort tea and burned herbal smoke to enhance our intuition and open our third eye. We learned about alpha and theta brain waves and listened to music and did a grounding visualization to help us drop into the liminal space where we might tune in deeper to our cards. And then Celeste guided us through learning to work with our tarot decks and tap into our innate inner wisdom and draw on our intuition to glean messages from our card spreads. We finished the evening with a clarity and grounding tea to help us arrive back into the physical space and process the messages we received.
It was a truly magical and literal third eye opening experience. Thank you to Celeste for sharing her wisdom and to those who shared this workshop with us! I hope you all slept soundly! I had some wild dreams last night after all that psychic work and I’d love to hear if any of you experienced something similar!

And I’m so sorry most of you didn’t hear about this class until now! Truth be told we sold out tickets via word of mouth before we even had a chance to share about the offering! But not to worry-we have more tarot classes in the works so join my email list to be the first to hear about them! Or comment Tea and Tarot on this post and I’ll collect your email address and add you to the list to be notified when we have the next date solidified!

And stop by the apothecary today or tomorrow to sample some iced Rose and Shine Clarity Tea and stock up on some of the ethereal teas, herbs and potions that we chatted about in class! I’ll be here at 10 Apple Tree Lane in Underhill Vermont from noon to 5 both days!
