Twenty-five years ago, on September 11, 2001, our nation experienced unimaginable loss. Today, we remember the lives taken too soon and honor the first responders and brave men and women who answered the call—those who ran toward danger, helped strangers, and sacrificed in service to others.

Here in Alaska, people responded in the way they knew how: they showed up. Alaskans came to Blood Bank of Alaska looking to donate blood and help in any way they could. It was a powerful reminder that even in our darkest moments, people come together to care for one another.

Today, 25 years later, we honor that spirit of service, sacrifice, and unity.

🇺🇸 Donors who give blood today at our Anchorage center will receive a “We Bleed Red, White & Blue” T-shirt, while supplies last, in remembrance of September 11 and in honor of those who serve and sacrifice for others.

PATRIOT DAY — SEPTEMBER 11

September 11, 2001- A day that changed our nation forever. Today we pause to remember and honor the lives lost, the brave heroes who stepped forward to help, the families who carry their loved ones in their hearts, and recognize the resilience of a nation forever changed by that day.

Twenty-five years ago, our nation was shaken by an unimaginable act of terror. The legacy of 9/11 lives not only in remembrance of the 2,977 lives lost, but in the generations of Americans who chose service, sacrifice and commitment to something greater than themselves. 25 years later, the stories still matter, the names still matter, the courage still matters.

Today, on the 25th anniversary, we honor the fallen, those who responded in our nation’s darkest hours, and the families whose lives were forever changed but still carry the weight of that day. We honor their memory and the strength, unity, and resilience that carried our country through one of its darkest days.

In total, 2,977 people were directly killed-2,606 in the World Trade Center, 246 across four hijacked planes, and 125 at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. Tens of thousands more were injured in the aftermath or suffer from long-term illnesses caused by the debris.

Today more than 9,000 people have now died from 9/11-related illnesses, approximately three times the number killed on Sept. 11, 2001.
Behind every number was a person — a life, a family, a story, and someone who was loved.

May we never forget the cost of that day. It marks a moment in time when everything stopped, and everything changed. A nation became ONE.

Join the Mat-Su Trails and Parks Foundation for the Mat-Su’s Winter Resource Expo—a free community event designed to help you make the most of winter in the Mat-Su. This year, we're giving back by adding a canned food drive to the mix. Donations will support the and enter you to win a prize!

Connect with local businesses and nonprofits, learn about winter programs and events, explore scholarship opportunities, and get excited for the upcoming winter season. Whether you’re experienced winter adventurer or simply looking for ways to get outside with your family, Frost Fest is a welcoming place to learn, ask questions, and discover something new.

We’ll also have door prizes and plenty of opportunities to connect with the people and organizations that make winter recreation possible in our community.
