Kick off summer solstice at the Alaska Zoo's Summer Family Fun Days this Sunday, June 21 from 12–6 pm!

Enjoy a full day of family-friendly activities, including live music, food trucks, animal enrichment activities, zoo trail adventures, a petting zoo, community booths, and more. Guests can also browse the gift shop and enjoy performances from local musicians and entertainers throughout the day.

We'll be there, too! Come by Hope's booth to say hello, connect with our team, and learn more about our services.

Today our country recognizes Juneteenth, and we honor a pivotal moment in our nation’s history—the day in 1865 when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

Juneteenth is a celebration of liberation, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of equality. It is also a reminder of the work that remains as we continue striving toward a more just and inclusive society.

Today, we encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect, learn, and engage—whether through community events, educational resources, or personal reflection. Let us honor the strength, culture, and contributions of Black Americans, past and present.
