At Rhythm Medical, we believe small daily choices shape long-term health — and recent research on even modest soda consumption and liver disease risk is a perfect example.

We help patients understand how everyday habits, from sugary drinks to hidden dietary sugars, can quietly impact liver function over time. We work with you to build sustainable, practical swaps — like trading soda for water or unsweetened alternatives — that support long-term liver and metabolic health.

Because at Rhythm Medical, prevention isn’t just a philosophy; it’s part of every treatment plan.

A study in the Health Workers Cohort Study (published in Annals of Hepatology) followed Mexican Social Security Institute employees and their relatives, tracking them from the mid-2000s through 2016-2018. Researchers looked at how much soda people drank and compared it to their risk of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) — now more commonly called MASLD.

Key finding: Drinking less than one can of soda a day was still linked with higher rates of liver dysfunction — a smaller amount than many people would consider a “real” soda habit. Soda intake was sorted into three buckets: under 1 serving/week, 1–3.5 servings/week, and 3.5+ servings/week, and liver disease risk was assessed using a hepatic steatosis index calculated from liver enzyme levels and BMI.

This isn’t an isolated finding. A separate, larger UK Biobank study (~124,000 people) presented more recently found similar or even higher risk from diet soda specifically — as little as one diet soda a day was linked to a 60% higher risk of NAFLD, versus 50% for sugary soda, and swapping soda for water lowered risk by roughly 13-15%.

Even modest soda habits — regular or diet — may be worth reconsidering for liver health, and water is the safer default.

What is Direct Primary Care (DPC)

* More time with your doctor — visits aren’t rushed, which supports better diagnosis and relationship-building.
* Faster access — same-day appointments for anything urgent and direct communication (text/call) with your physician.
* Predictable costs — one flat fee, often with no surprise bills for included services.
* Less administrative friction — doctors aren’t juggling insurance requirements, so they can focus more on patients.
* Continuity of care — smaller patient panels mean your doctor actually knows your history well.

What if the “secret” to living better isn’t really a secret?

We live in an age of health influencers, longevity experiments, expensive supplements, elaborate protocols, and promises that someone has finally “cracked the code.”

Some people have even spent millions experimenting on themselves in pursuit of longer, healthier lives.

But step back from the hype, and the fundamentals look remarkably familiar.

Eat real, nourishing food.
Move your body.
Sleep well.
Stay connected to other people.
Manage chronic stress.
Have a reason to get up in the morning.

It may be family. It may be meaningful work. It may be a garden, a community, or simply making sure the goats get fed today (as in life in a Blue Zone)

That isn’t a trendy biohack. It’s a way of living.

Research on healthy aging and lifestyle medicine continues to point us toward many of the same fundamentals humans have benefited from for generations.

At Rhythm Medical, we believe good medicine starts there.

We don’t believe every health problem can be solved by lifestyle alone. And we don’t believe medication should automatically be the first or only answer.

We believe in understanding the whole person, strengthening the foundations of health, and carefully adding evidence-based medical treatment when it is needed.

Because medicine should work with a healthy life—not replace one.

Rhythm Medical
Common sense lifestyle. Thoughtful medicine. Better health.

Overwhelmed by conflicting health advice from every influencer online?

It doesn’t have to be this confusing.

Taking control of your health shouldn’t mean hundreds of dollars in tests and supplements you don’t need.

Let’s simplify it together — come talk with us and start your health journey the easy way.

Weight management? See a nutritionist.

Type 2 diabetes? See an endocrinologist.

Perimenopause or menopause? See a menopause specialist.

Routine women’s health? See a gynecologist.

Acid reflux or gastritis? See a GI specialist.

Something urgent? Go to urgent care.

Now imagine addressing all of it in one place, starting with your P*P.

Often, most of these presentations can be addressed at the primary care level if given sufficient exam time and faster access to primary care.

That’s what we do here at Rhythm Medical.

We refer out only when it’s truly needed saving you time and complications.

One doctor for most of what you need.

It’s hard enough counseling patients… but counseling your fur child? That’s a whole new specialty. 🐾😂

CMS 2027 wants to cut E/M payment by 50% when billed same-day. Here’s what that actually means for you.

Say you go in for your annual physical, and while you’re there you mention a rash that’s been bothering you for two weeks. Today, your doctor bills your insurance for the physical and a separate office visit for addressing the rash — two services, two reimbursements.
Under the new CMS proposal, that second service gets cut in half. The doctor (or the practice) is paid only 50% for addressing your concern in the same visit. But if you come back a second time just to talk about the rash? Full reimbursement.
Let that sink in.
This doesn’t reduce cost or improve care — it just shifts the incentive. It pushes doctors to defer anything that isn’t urgent to a second appointment, in a system where getting one appointment is already hard enough.
More visits. More scheduling. More time away from work. Less time with the doctor who already knows you.

At Rhythm, we do it differently.
Your first visit is two hours — no rushing, no “let’s schedule that separately,” no surprise charges for asking about the thing that’s actually bothering you. Just one flat monthly fee. No games with billing codes.

And starting October 1, 2026, Rhythm Medical is fully opting out of Medicare. No more Medicare billing, no more policies like this one dictating how your care gets delivered. Just a simple flat monthly or annual membership.

Care should be simple. So we made it that way.

GLP-1s are having a moment : 1 in 8 adults are now on them.

But here’s what most people don’t realize: medication alone doesn’t sustain weight loss. Without lifestyle changes, patients often hit a plateau.

The truth? Lifestyle change is the foundation. Medication just helps jump-start it.
The problem is most doctors/advanced practitioners prescribe the GLP-1, but leave you to find a nutritionist on your own, at extra cost, on your own time.

At Rhythm Medical, it’s all under one roof. Medication management, nutrition guidance, and ongoing support - all included in one flat monthly membership. No surprise bills. No piecing it together yourself.
We guide you every step of the way, so you can become your best self and stay there. 💪
