The Exceptional Children's Assistance Center (ECAC) is hosting a FREE Self-Advocacy Training — Me 101 — for students enrolled in Extended Content Standards (ECS) or Future Ready/Occupational Course of Study (OCS).
Students will learn how to:

✅ Speak up for themselves

✅ Set goals for life after high school

✅ Build a circle of support

✅ Create a vision for their future
And the best part? Students who complete the training will receive a $25 check by mail! 🎉

💛 Foster families make all the difference!
Last night, foster children and their caregivers came together at the Harrelson Center for a special evening of connection, painting, and fun — and we were so proud to co-host it alongside our partner Foster Pantry! Together, we are committed to supporting foster children and the families who love them in the Wilmington community. But the need for more foster families is real. Check out this story from WWAY and share it with someone who might be ready to open their heart and home. 🏡
Special Thanks to The Harrelson Centerfor providing the perfect place, Mikes Mulch & Stone for donating the supplies for the art project, and to Chick-fil-A Monkey Junction for having the cow come visit our families and for the food to make it such a memorable event for everyone! We couldn't have done it without you!

The families participated in the Foster Care Wraparound Program, which included activities such as food, painting, and outings for both children and caregivers.

As hurricane season approaches in North Carolina, preparing before disaster strikes can make all the difference.

A Post-Disaster Simulation provides individuals, agencies, and community partners the opportunity to experience realistic disaster scenarios in a safe learning environment that strengthens response, communication, and recovery efforts. See attached flyer for additional details.

These simulations help participants:
• Practice real-world decision-making under pressure
• Improve coordination and emergency planning
• Identify effective emergency response strategies and ways to stay informed
• Strengthen trauma-informed and behavioral health responses, including preparing a family emergency kit
• Enhance community resilience and long-term recovery efforts

Disasters impact more than buildings and infrastructure — they also affect people emotionally, mentally, and physically. Simulation-based training provides valuable opportunities to practice responses that help keep families and communities safe.
