If you would have told me a month ago that I would be voluntarily waking up at 6:30am, an hour before my actual alarm goes off...
I've never been a very good sleeper. I wake up alot through the night, toss and turn, and will 100% lay there with my eyes closed until I absolutely have to get out of bed.
But not anymore!!
I heard a prominent life coach say in a post about midlife women's health. And that changed everything for me.
On a recent trip to France, I found myself walking 25k steps a day. The first day I immediately theragun-ed after to relieve my achy muscles. Same thing the second day. The third day I forgot to do that. By the fourth day my muscles had adapted to the new pace. After 2 weeks, I actually looked forward to those steps. In fact, when I came home, I found myself pacing around the house and realized that my body craved the walking. That's when I heard this life coach talking about walking and decided to give it a try. This is what I found out...
I'm slimming up. Without dieting. In fact, I'm even treating my self a little more and still slimming up. Studies show morning walking uses up stored energy reserves, helps regulate blood sugar, and improves insulin sensitivity and increases overall daily activity levels.
I'm sleeping better at night. I'm actually falling asleep, staying asleep and waking up naturally at 6:30am. This is because exposure to morning sunlight sets your internal clock, which improves sleep quality, which in turn helps balance hormones, and aids in recovery and longevity.
My energy is more sustained throughout the day. No afternoon crashes. Walking early increases circulation ad oxygen delivery to the brain and muscles, helping you maintain energy levels without needing caffeine.
Something about waking up and walking, hearing the birds chirping, helps me clear my head and set a positive tone for my day. Walking lowers cortisol and stimulated the release of the happy hormones. So do chirping birds!
I've had a few really great ideas along the way. Inspiration seems to flow while I'm walking. That's because increased blood flow to the brain helps with creativity, concentration and decision-making skills.
I've met all the puppies in my neighborhood, and counted lots of bunnies too! That's just a fun side effect!

They have simple consistent rituals.
They hydrate.
They move.
They get outside.
They prioritize their health before their to-do list.
And they walk, first thing in the morning.
