❤️Your heart pumps your blood. But what pumps your lymph? 💧

Here’s something many people don’t know:

Your lymphatic system doesn’t have a central pump like your circulatory system has the heart.

Instead, lymph movement is supported by things your body does every day—muscle contractions, walking, movement, and breathing, along with the natural contractions of the lymphatic vessels themselves.

And after plastic surgery, this becomes especially important. Procedures such as liposuction, tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), BBL, mommy makeover, breast augmentation or reduction, breast lift, explant surgery, arm lift, thigh lift, and body lift can temporarily alter or disrupt some of the superficial lymphatic pathways in the areas being treated. At the same time, your body is producing additional fluid as part of the normal healing response.

So now your lymphatic system has an important job:

Move that excess fluid while adapting to a changing landscape.

This is one reason appropriate movement is often an important part of recovery—as permitted by your surgeon. And it’s also where specialized post-operative lymphatic drainage can be valuable.

Gentle, properly directed lymphatic techniques are designed to support lymph flow toward functioning pathways, helping the body manage excess fluid and tissue congestion as healing progresses. A healing body needs knowledgeable, gentle care—and the technique may need to change depending on the procedure, stage of recovery, incisions, swelling, and the pathways available. After 19 years of working with the lymphatic system, one thing continues to amaze us:

The body knows how to adapt. Our role is to understand its pathways and support the process. 🤍

LESSON 5 — MORE THAN THE SCAR 🤍

One of the things we want our post-op patients to understand is that healing after plastic surgery is about so much more than the scar you can see.

Underneath that incision, your body is working hard.

There is swelling.
There is inflammation.
Scar tissue is beginning to form.
The fascia and surrounding tissues are healing.
And your lymphatic system is trying to manage all of the extra fluid created by surgery.

This is one of the reasons we believe proper post-op care matters so much.

Manual lymphatic drainage is a very gentle technique that helps guide excess fluid toward healthy lymphatic pathways and can help the body manage post-surgical swelling.

And we want to make something very clear:

Post-op lymphatic drainage should NOT feel like a deep massage.

Especially early in recovery, your body has been through enough. The tissues need to be treated gently and according to where you are in your healing process.

We work with patients recovering from: 💧 Lipo 360 and liposuction
💧 Tummy tuck
💧 Mommy makeover
💧 BBL
💧 Breast augmentation, lift or reduction
💧 Explant surgery
💧 Arm and thigh lifts
💧 Body contouring procedures

After 19 years working with the lymphatic system and post-op recovery, we have learned one thing very well:

No two bodies heal exactly the same way.

Our job is to pay attention to what YOUR body is telling us and support it through each stage of recovery with knowledge, experience and a lot of care. 🤍

Your surgeon creates the result.

Your recovery helps protect it.

Lesson 2 of 7 Swelling isn’t always a problem.

Sometimes it’s proof your body is working.

One of the biggest misconceptions after plastic surgery is that all swelling is bad.

In reality, some swelling is actually part of your body’s remarkable healing response.

After surgery, your body immediately begins sending:
🍃Healing cells
🍃Nutrients
🍃Oxygen
🍃Protective fluid

These resources travel to the surgical area to repair tissue and begin rebuilding what has been carefully reshaped.

Swelling is often a sign that your body has started that process.

The challenge begins when that healing fluid has difficulty leaving the area.

When fluid remains trapped longer than it should, you may experience:
• Persistent puffiness
• Tightness
• Increased discomfort
• Delayed recovery
• More tissue congestion

This is where specialized post-operative lymphatic drainage can play an important role.

Its purpose isn’t to “remove good swelling.”

It’s to support your body’s natural drainage pathways, helping excess fluid move efficiently while allowing the healing process to continue.

Healing isn’t about fighting your body’s response.

It’s about helping it do what it was designed to do.

Because sometimes…

Swelling isn’t the problem.

It’s part of the solution.

🤍 next lesson lesson: Where does all that fluid actually go?

07/20/2026

🍃“Did you know plastic surgery changes your lymphatic pathways?” 💧Your plastic surgeon reshaped your body… but your lymphatic system has to find its way home.

Think of your lymphatic system as thousands of tiny roads that carry away excess fluid and support your body’s healing.

During surgery, some of those roads are temporarily interrupted. Nothing went “wrong”—it’s simply part of the healing process.

🍃Your body immediately gets to work creating new routes, almost like finding a detour after a road closure. While it’s doing that, fluid can build up, causing swelling, tightness, heaviness, and discomfort.

That’s why healing doesn’t happen overnight! 💧

🍃The good news? Your body already knows what to do.

Gentle, specialized post-operative lymphatic drainage helps support your body’s natural drainage process while those new pathways develop. It’s not about forcing fluid out—it’s about encouraging your body to heal the way it was designed to.🍃

💜Healing isn’t just about what happened in surgery.
It’s about what happens in the weeks that follow.

If you’re preparing for surgery or are already in recovery, we’d be honored to guide you through every step of the healing journey.
