But seriously… who’s actually to blame for the high cost of prescription drugs?

The manufacturer setting the price?
The wholesaler selling it to the pharmacy?
The insurance company/PBM deciding what the patient pays AND what the pharmacy gets reimbursed?

Or is the real answer… all of the above?

Because here’s the part patients don’t always see: pharmacies are expected to purchase a medication for $1,200 only to find out insurance will reimburse $900 for dispensing it.

We can’t pay $1,200 to make $900.

And when that happens across increasingly expensive medications, independent pharmacies are forced to scrutinize claims before ordering them…not because we don’t want to fill your prescription, but because we can’t stay in business repeatedly filling prescriptions below cost. We would all be out of business, and that’s exactly what the insurance companies want… so they can take over the whole market because the billions they make isn’t ever enough.

So what came first: ridiculously expensive drugs or a ridiculously broken payment system?

Either way, patients AND independent pharmacies are stuck in the middle.
