The World Hepatitis Alliance's fifth Community Impact Accelerator Programme brought together 17 advocates from 13 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania, equipping community and civil society leaders with practical skills to advance hepatitis elimination.

Delivered through an in-person workshop at the 2026 World Hepatitis Summit in Bangkok and interactive virtual sessions, the programme strengthened participants’ confidence, knowledge and ability to turn advocacy ideas into action.

With 85% saying they would definitely recommend the programme, Group Five is now better equipped and connected to contribute to the global effort to eliminate hepatitis by 2030. New research published in the SAJHIVMED highlights the ongoing clinical impact of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) among people living with HIV in South Africa.

Despite high ART coverage and generally low HIV and HBV viral loads, the study identified important gaps in liver fibrosis assessment and retention in care, with only one-third of patients remaining in follow-up

The findings reinforce the need to strengthen HBV prevention, vaccination, diagnosis and continuity of care for people living with HIV.
