I wanted to share a great community resource that may be helpful for participants who need equipment but are reluctant to approach the NDIA for assistive technology funding due to concerns about plan reassessments or broader plan reviews. It may also be useful for participants and families looking to donate equipment they no longer need.

The Sharing Shed Foundation provides a practical community-based equipment-sharing service, helping connect donated mobility and disability equipment with people who need it.

Location:
Storage King Tingalpa
Tingalpa, Queensland

How it works:
Donated mobility and disability equipment is stored, organised, and made available to individuals and families requiring support. Equipment drop-offs and collections can be arranged directly through the Foundation.

NEW SOCIAL GROUP!
Join us for our second Wednesday Socials session. Send me a message if you would like the details to join.

This is a participant-led social group so each session the group will decide where they go next fortnight together.

If you're looking to make more friends, have a regular catch up, do fun activities, and have a weekly belly laugh, this is the group for you!

You will need to bring your own support worker and pay any entry fees or meal prices yourself. KBIS is just the facilitator of this social butterfly get-together and does not charge any fees.

Hope to see you Wednesday! 😄

This week is International Assistance Dog Week. 🦮💙🌏

What if the key to someone's independence had four paws?

For many people, an assistance dog isn't a pet, and they aren't there for attention or admiration. They're highly trained partners who make everyday life possible; opening doors, retrieving medication, alerting to medical emergencies, guiding someone safely through the community, interrupting panic attacks, providing stability, or simply giving their handler the confidence to leave the house.

They don't just change lives.
They give people back their lives.
Yet assistance dog teams are still met with stares, questions, and sometimes even denied access to places they have every right to be.

This International Assistance Dog Week, we encourage everyone to remember:
🐾 Not every disability is visible.
🐾 Never distract or pat a working assistance dog without the handler's permission.
🐾 Respect the space between a handler and their dog. They're a team.

A little understanding from the community can mean the difference between someone feeling included or excluded.
This week, let's celebrate the incredible dogs who work every day to increase independence, dignity, freedom, and the remarkable people whose determination reminds us that independence doesn't always look the way we expect.
Because sometimes, the greatest acts of assistance don't come from people at all. They come with a wagging tail!
