We explore how dietetics and permaculture can work together to support long-term health. In our latest blog post we explain a common question, what is Permaculture? And we share practical steps on how to implement it into daily life by: choosing seasonal, whole foods; support regenerative farming; reducing waste; and combining nutrition support with growing your own.

If you’re looking for personalised, evidence-based nutrition that’s practical and sustainable, we offer workshops for Veterans, home visits for DVA/NDIS/aged care clients, multi-location clinics and telehealth. Weight loss medications continue to try and change the conversation around weight management. The current era of weight loss medications, including semaglutide (aka Ozempic and Wegovy) and tirzepatide (aka Mounjaro) have made it significantly easier for some people to reduce their food intake and lose weight. For others, they may not be appropriate, well tolerated or necessary.

At Dig In Health Co, we believe the conversation shouldn't stop at the number on the scales, in fact it shouldn’t even start there, and that’s because the true picture of health is more nuanced than simply “losing weight”.

If a medication is helping you eat less, what you eat becomes that much more important. Adequate protein, vitamins, minerals, fibre and overall dietary quality help support muscle and bone health, immune and energy systems; gut and mental health; ensuring long-term wellbeing while weight is changing. So, how do these medications work, who might benefit from them, and what should you be thinking about nutritionally?

Nutrition to Support Pain Management - Part 1

Living with joint, back or gut pain? We explain how the gut‑brain axis and your food choices can affect inflammation and pain, and why a Mediterranean‑style approach often helps. This is a practical, evidence‑based starting point - no extreme diets, just small, sustainable swaps.

In the post we cover: the gut‑brain connection, how inflammation links to pain, easy Med‑style swaps (more oily fish, legumes, veg, olive oil), a sample day of meals, stress‑smart tips, and red flags to watch for. It’s a 3‑minute read that’s grounded in real life.

We’re veteran‑owned and provide tailored, evidence‑based support for Veterans, NDIS participants and aged care clients and everyone else in between!
Including DVA home visits, multi‑location clinics across Sunshine Coast QLD, and telehealth options.

The New U.S. Food Pyramid & Why It Matters.

In January 2026 the U.S. released an updated dietary guide and brought back a pyramid - this time inverted! It prioritises protein-rich whole foods (lean meats, eggs, seafood), fruits and vegetables, and healthy fats, reduces emphasis on total grain servings, and pushes to cut ultra-processed foods. The update also recommends higher daily protein tailored to body weight.

Why this matters: focusing on nutrient-dense whole foods can support sustainable weight loss, help preserve muscle as we age, and lower risks tied to highly processed foods.

Read our 3-minute breakdown to see the practical takeaways and how the changes might affect everyday meals.

We’re a veteran‑owned dietetics service specialising in working with Veterans, NDIS participants, aged care clients and anyone else looking for nutritional support across the Sunshine Coast, Bribie Island and North Brisbane - clinic, home or telehealth.

In January 2026, the United States released a major overhaul of its national dietary guidance — resurrecting the food pyramid in a brand-new form and shifting what it prioritises in the American diet.

What a high‑quality protein diet looks like - And why women over 40 need more protein!

Protein matters more as we enter our 40s and 50s and beyond. Declining oestrogen and gradual muscle loss increase the risk of weight gain, fatigue and lower bone density. For women in perimenopause and menopause, aiming closer to 1.6-2.0 gram per kg of body weight, spread evenly through the day, helps preserve muscle, support metabolism and improve satiety. (By comparison, the old RDI of 0.8 g/kg is likely inadequate for many adults.)

Simple meal ideas you can use today:
• Power breakfast (30-35 g protein): 3 scrambled eggs (18 g) + whole‑grain toast with cottage cheese (10 g) + ½ avocado.
• Savoury mince: a 120 g serve (28 g protein).
• Quick option: 200 ml high‑protein yoghurt (no added sugar) 20 g - add chia and berries.

Easy protein boosts during the day: protein shakes (25 g), Greek yogurt, nuts and seeds, hard‑boiled eggs, cottage cheese, steamed edamame, Tuna.

Want to know if you’re hitting your target? We can help you calculate your needs and build meals that fit your life. We support Veterans, NDIS participants and aged care clients across the Sunshine Coast, Bribie Island and North Brisbane - in clinic, online or at home.

Veterans Grow Club - Next Meet up Tuesday August 11th.

Join us for a relaxed, hands-on community gathering where we connect in the garden or over a cuppa.

Dig In Health Co, a veteran-owned business, is passionate about everything from the paddock (garden) to the plate (nutrition). We're offering these free fortnightly meetups for veterans to enjoy social connection, spend time outdoors, and maybe even get their hands in the dirt.

These gatherings are also a great opportunity for previous Paddock to Plate workshop participants to reconnect, share how they've been putting what they learned into practice, ask questions, and refresh their knowledge.

Whether you're keen to garden, have a chat, or simply enjoy some time in good company, you're welcome to join us.
