What I strikes me the most, is that this is an image of me in work gear, in the course of my job. It was taken in Houston while another astronaut was explaining to me the different tools on the spacesuit I was wearing.

It's the equivalent of having a woman in scrubs, high viz, a flying suit or a lab coat in a non-posed photo in their workplace on the cover.

Imagine what we could do, what more we could contribute, what problems we could solve, what more we could discover, if there were 'no limits'.

For Consideration: This is an Australian mission, whose impact will be felt by millions of Australians

A mission to strengthen our economy, our health, our food security, our climate resilience and our national security.
Space isn't the outcome, Australia's future is.

As Cabinet weighs investment against the cost of living, housing, education and healthcare, space must not be mistaken for discretionary spending.
This is an investment in the industries that will define Australia's capability, its very survival and prosperity, in the present tense and for generations.

An Australian first, flying proudly under the Australia flag will bolster opportunities to help solve complex problems impacting all Australians. Australia can help build those industries....or spend decades buying them from the countries that did.

This mission advances Australia's entry point into the next industrial revolution. With Katherine Bennell-Pegg mission ready with experience across sectors, the question is no longer whether Australia should invest, its what will we lose if we don’t?

Given the mission's scientific, technological and diplomatic capability, the focus then becomes, which Australian problem will we triage and address first?
Cancer?
Food security?
Climate resilience?

National security?
Nations that participate in solving these complex problems with the expediated insights of space, don't just witness history, they shape it.

Having a debrief after a busy week! If you were at our panel discussion yesterday, you would've heard practical tips on how to create SOP's for your trade secrets, brand, product, research, experiments and services. Thank you to Wrays | Intellectual Property, for their worldwide expertise and guidance in this area and to Australian Industry & Defence Network (AIDN) for organising and hosting an insightful event.

We set out the steps required, the systems thinking required and 'permission' to set your standards for your work.

I gave a first hand account of our now Standard Operational Procedures for Cambrian IP. Ensuring our due diligence is robust for our own R&D and for clients services and IP

Thank you to MC and fellow panelists Paula Adamson, Craig Humphris and to the tireless Graham Priestnall OAM and AIDN staff. From the response, it looks like there is much more to discuss, protect and grow 'in this space'

Proud to be a part of this mob, wish I was in France with the crew, a site and mission of great import. This work has assisted veterans and family members, along with creating a link to the past warrior, becoming detectives of history, an understanding, a purpose and possible new education and career pathways. Thank you to all that have made the veteran archaeological dig possible, door university

If it wasn't for an upcoming little ol rocket launch - I would be right alongside you, what a wonderful opportunity for military veterans.

"Many of the team are military veterans through Project Warhorse and part of the Flinders University Open Door Initiative which brings together defence and archaeology to honour those who served and deepen an understanding of Australia’s wartime story. Three French archaeologists are also on the team.

“The French have kindly given us a chance to demonstrate that Australian archaeologists can work on a World War I battlefield,” Dr Wesley said.

Dr Dix said: “Not only are we going to be the first Australian archaeologists to run and understand this site of such importance to Australian soldiers, but the first boots that are actually going to touch the dirt when we do hit that original French ground are all going to be people who have served in the military.”

Ever been in a meeting where you realised, too late, you were the catch of the day? (not in a complimentary manner)

Ever felt the room circling, hanging off every word, then watched those words resurface later as someone else's? in a webinar, a speech, a product, a rocket mission? You knew something wasn't right the moment you left, that feeling.. They walked away with your IP, your concepts, your intellectual prowess

Space, Defence and Academia run on collaboration. That's the strength of these sectors, and also the exposure.

Knowing your boundaries before you walk into a room isn't operating with suspicion, it's simple professional discipline. Protecting your IP, your concepts, your intellectual prowess is no different to protecting yourself or a loved one. Protecting your business, know what you're walking in with, know what you're not willing to leave on the table. Guard it, nurture it.

The non acknowledgement of 'knowledge-transfer' in all its iterations, erodes the innovative capability and trust of the individual and impacts the cohesion of the entire eco-system, sooo what to do?

The last couple of weeks I’ve felt more ‘protected’ with the guidance of Wray’s, what I also love about their work, is they do more than a google search on backgrounds, they do a ‘health audit’ on your SOP’s for IP. Your standards, what you divulge when and to whom, with the confidence to say NO, that’s not our SOP, this is …

The sharks don't announce themselves, that's exactly why you need to know your own waters before you swim in theirs. BEFORE you go to that meeting, before the NDA.

I look forward to operating with more ‘protection’ in place and highly recommend you do too

What was meant to be a working lunch turned into nearly 4 hours of deeply engaging conversation, and honestly, I wouldn't have had it any other way.

I had the privilege of sitting down with Lieutenant Colonel Jan Eldeblad Swedish Defence Attaché, and the time simply flew. When you find genuine alignment on what matters, shared values, resilient communities, and the kind of leadership that puts people and purpose first, the clock stops being front of mind

We covered a lot of ground: how to deepen the relationship between our two space faring countries, one established, one emerging. Ideas to better support collaboration across industries, and communities and the concrete steps we can take to strengthen that partnership in meaningful, lasting ways.

Sweden and Australia share more than geography could ever explain. We share a worldview. And conversations like this one remind me why values-driven leadership isn't just an ideal, it's a foundation.

I left the meeting thinking, this is what genuine collaboration looks like,not ceremony, but action.

Australia's Space Microgravity Research Sector 🚀 Here's your round-up of the breakthroughs shaping our sector in 2026.

From a landmark Australia–Sweden microgravity alliance to cancer cells on rockets, plasma water fighting superbugs, edge AI processing biology in orbit, parabolic research and a high-altitude airship, Australia's space story has never been more exciting.

🌏 THE SSC SPACE PARTNERSHIP
Cambrian Defence & Space has formalised a landmark partnership with SSC Space (formerly the Swedish Space Corporation) the only primary Australasian SSC Space representative in our region. With nearly 60 years of launch heritage, Cambrian acts as prime contractor, mission organiser and pathway architect, handling mission design, client delivery and the full end-to-end pathway to space. Access spans parabolic flights, suborbital rockets, high-altitude platforms and orbital opportunities. Next mission: October 2026.

💧 PLASMA-ACTIVATED WATER & AMR, RICHTER LAB, A/Prof Katharina Richter, PhD
PhD researchers at the Richter Lab (University of Adelaide) are advancing plasma-activated water (PAW) as an antibiotic-free strategy against drug-resistant bacteria. With Cambrian as PhD industry supervisor, applications extend to space medicine, AUKUS submarine environments and wound care in remote settings. Clinical Phase I trials are underway!

🔬 CAMBRIAN LEADS MICROGRAVITY CANCER RESEARCH MISSION
Cambrian has created a landmark microgravity cancer research mission carrying the research of Dr Nirmal Robinson, the Centre for Cancer Biology (University of Adelaide) and SAHMRI. Cancer stem cells will fly aboard a suborbital rocket from Sweden, where microgravity enables 3D tumour-like structures impossible to study on Earth. In partnership with Blue Dwarf Space, funded by the SA Government's Space Collaboration and Innovation Fund

🛰 AI MEETS SPACE BIOLOGY
AICRAFT & ResearchSat have partnered to deploy edge computing modules for real-time on-orbit analysis of biological experiments combining space data with hybrid AI to create microgravity digital twins that could transform pharmaceutical development. An ISS proof-of-concept mission is on the roadmap.

🎈Stratoship
Stratoship's SZ-155 reached 65,780ft above Queensland in May 2025 Australia's first sovereign HAPS to reach the stratosphere, spending 8+ hours at altitude. A January 2026 alliance with Orbit2Orbit and Sunburnt Space Co creates a staged lab-to-orbit pathway

🚀 Gilmour Space + UWA PARABOLIC RESEARCH TEAM
Adam Gilmour made history with Australia's first orbital rocket launch attempt in July 2025 and is targeting a return-to-flight in 2026. The University of WA will fly zero-gravity research team in October 2026 via a CNES partnership aboard the Airbus A310 Zero-G. Same aircraft that trained astronaut Katherine Bennell-Pegg.
