Embodied Wisdom Counselling and Somatics

Embodied Wisdom Counselling and Somatics I’m Stephanie, a Registered Social Worker and founder of Embodied Wisdom. We work in a collaborative way to allow integration to unfold.

I offer somatic, experiential trauma therapy for adults feeling stuck in anxiety, depression, or unresolved trauma. I am a Certified Holistic Nutritional Consultant™ and Registered Social Worker. I believe that food an emotions are deeply entwined, and when we get right down to looking at the roots of issues, understanding our nutrition and imbalances are pivotal to creating a healthy sustainable

lifestyle. We can't make good choices if we don't knowhow, or if we believe we can't. I work with people to help develop an understanding of their beliefs around food and finding a way to move toward health in a supportive partnership, not a dictatorship. I love seeing people change their perspective on food, and fall in love with themselves again, it's a true gift to help someone find their confidence and health! I offer a number of supportive services including healthy weight loss & lifestyle group programs, private nutritional assessment, one on one coaching, meal planning, workshops and more! Let's connect if you think you might be interested in learning more about how I can serve you!

Not just what you remember. How it gets stored in the first place.

Rest isn’t a break from learning.

Movement isn’t a break from integration.

They’re part of the process.

Your brain needs the housekeeping. The quiet. The recharge.

That’s when the things you’ve taken in actually get processed. Sorted. Integrated.

So if you’ve been pushing through, trying to force something to click by sheer repetition…

Your nervous system might be asking for something different.

Not more effort. More rest.

What would it look like to trust the pause as part of the progress, not a delay from it?

September has a way of asking a lot of us all at once. New routines, new schedules, everyone’s nervous systems adjusting in real time.

If you’ve been moving through it feeling foggy, flat, or like you’re watching your own life from a few feet away, that’s not a character flaw. That’s a nervous system in low tone freeze, doing its best to keep you upright and functioning under a load that outpaced its capacity.

Functional freeze is sneaky because it doesn’t look like shutting down. It looks like showing up. Answering the emails. Making the lunches. Just... not really there for any of it.
Not every freeze looks like a deer in headlights. Some of it looks like you, doing the dishes, saying nothing. High functioning doesn’t mean regulated. Sometimes it just means your freeze response learned how to answer emails.
The body found a way to survive the overwhelm. Now the work is helping it find its way back.

If this is landing, save it for the week you need it. I’m currently welcoming new clients, both individual and couples, and my student therapist Mich is taking on new clients too. Link in bio to book with either of us.

Just a few of the things I’ve been working on this week! Creative flow is peaking - is it just me!?

08/22/2026

I have a love hate relationship with social media. I like it until I really don’t love it and then it’s overwhelming. In some ways it can feed a creative part of me, but in others it can become consuming.

This past week or so I’ve stayed pretty far off of social media (other than to follow the ongoing Lindsay Clancy trail) and I’ve focused on my boys and out home, and last night, for the first time in a long time I sat down to create just for myself. For no reason other than I had a creative spark and wanted to soothe my soul.
Creating is one of the ways I recharge and tune into myself. And yes, I could stay in that zone for days, and the hyperfocus takes over sometimes, however I always feel fresh after creating.

Tell me your creative ways to turn in to your self!?

Every belief, thought, and behaviour is doing one of two things.
Reinforcing an old pattern. Or moving us towards the life we actually want.
There isn’t a neutral option in between. No pause button. No holding pattern where nothing is happening.

And both are hard.

This is part of why insight alone doesn’t create change. We can understand a pattern completely and still find ourselves inside it again and again. The mind can know something. The body is the one that has to believe it.

That’s the work. Not just seeing the pattern, but building enough capacity to actually move differently when it shows up.

So maybe the gentler question isn’t “what’s wrong with me for still doing this.”
It’s just, quietly, “which direction is this moving me in.”

I used to think being good enough meant being palatable or likeable to everyone.
Smoothing the edges.
Keeping the woo to myself.

Leading with credentials and how hard I could work instead of letting the human in me seep through.

Keeping my opinions to myself and trying so hard to quiet them for others.
A lifetime of defending myself or trying to get others to understand me.

Turns out every time I shrunk my opinion, my anger, my joy, or felt backed into a corner, I stepped further away from myself and became a version of me and reinforced an old pattern and it felt so normal .

So I stand firm in who I am today, the good, the bad, and the super weird.

So here’s a few reasons you might want to follow along. Or not. Both are fine.
I don’t think therapy is neutral. I don’t think talking is always the goal. I think the body knows things the mind hasn’t caught up to yet. And I think this work can hold a little brainy and a little woo at the same time.

If that resonates, I’m glad you’re here. You’ve found a nest to land.

If it doesn’t, no hard feelings. Be free to find your space, they’re out there.
What’s your non-negotiable in a therapist?

If you’re ready to allow that authentic self lead the way then follow along or connect with me about working together.

Sometimes we have to be where we are. Without judgment, criticizing, or the to-do list. Holding where we are currently rather than comparing to the past. It’s not easy, but it is worth it. 💛
