🧠 Has your brain ever walked into a room and completely forgotten why it went there?

Or opened a new browser tab only to stare at it like it personally offended you? 😆

Your ability to focus is influenced by many things including sleep, stress, hormones, hydration and what you eat. The exciting part is that many foods that nourish your brain also feed your gut microbiome!

In this week’s blog, I’m sharing the simple F.O.C.U.S. Formula:

🥦 Feed your microbes with fibre
🌰 Opt for omega-3 fats
🫐 Choose colourful plants
🥬 Use fermented foods
🥚 Stabilize your energy with protein, fibre and healthy fat

No complicated meal plan. No magical “superfood.” Just practical ways to support your gut-brain connection, energy and mental clarity one meal at a time.

Because when your gut is well fed, your brain has a much better chance of showing up for the meeting!

You don’t have to figure out your health on your own. 💛

If you’ve been feeling tired, inflamed, frustrated with your weight or unsure about how to support your hormones, imagine spending eight weeks learning alongside other women who understand—and being guided by professionals who are genuinely invested in helping you succeed.

This September, Megan and Roxane are bringing you two supportive group programs:

🌿 Mood, Microbes & Metabolism is for women ready to begin exploring the gut–hormone connection while building habits that support digestion, energy, inflammation and healthy weight loss.

🌿 Our new advanced program is for women who have already completed Mood, Microbes & Metabolism and want to keep building on that foundation while taking the nutrition–hormone connection to the next level.

Both programs run for eight weeks and are designed to help you create meaningful progress before the end of 2026—one realistic step at a time.

Come learn, grow and feel supported in a community of women working toward their wellness goals together.

Send us a message or comment INFO to learn which program is right for you.

🦠 FUN NUTRITION FACT: When you eat fibre, you’re also feeding your gut microbes!

Certain gut bacteria ferment fibres that your body can’t fully digest. During this process, they produce compounds called short-chain fatty acids, including butyrate, acetate and propionate.

These compounds help support the intestinal environment and take part in processes connected to metabolism, the gut barrier and immune function.

Keep your gut microbes well fed with a variety of:

🫘 Beans and lentils
🫐 Berries
🌾 Whole grains
🥦 Vegetables
🍎 Fruit
🥜 Nuts and seeds

Your gut microbes love variety, so rather than searching for one “perfect” food, try adding different plant foods throughout the week. 🌈

How many different plants have you eaten today?

Struggling with brain fog or finding it hard to stay focused? The answer may not be another productivity hack or a stricter schedule. 🧠✨

Your brain performs best when it’s supported by simple, consistent habits that reduce mental clutter and provide steady energy.

A few small changes can make a meaningful difference:

🔕 Turn off unnecessary notifications and focus on one task at a time
🥚 Start your day with a protein-rich breakfast
🥗 Pair carbohydrates with protein, healthy fats and fibre
🚶‍♀️ Take short movement breaks throughout the day
🌿 Step outside, stretch or breathe deeply between focused tasks
😴 Protect your sleep with a consistent evening routine

You don’t have to change everything at once. Choose one or two habits that fit naturally into your day and build from there.

What do your gut, hormones, mood, energy and metabolism have in common?

More than you might think. 🧠🌿

Your digestive health can influence inflammation, blood sugar regulation, hormone metabolism and how energized you feel. That’s why our programs look beyond calories and quick fixes to help you better understand what your body may need.

This September, No Shoes Nutrition is offering two eight-week hormone programs:

🌱 Mood, Microbes & Metabolism
For women beginning to explore the gut–hormone connection and looking to support their gut health, energy, inflammation levels and weight-loss goals.

✨ Our new advanced program
For Mood, Microbes & Metabolism graduates who are ready to deepen their understanding of the nutrition–hormone connection and continue supporting hormone balance.

Megan and Roxane will guide you through practical, evidence-informed strategies you can use in real life—without chasing another restrictive diet or wellness trend.

Both programs begin in September 2026. Send us a message or comment HORMONES to learn more.

🧊 FUN NUTRITION FACT: Frozen fruits and vegetables aren’t automatically less nutritious than fresh ones!

Freezing itself doesn’t destroy nutrients, and frozen produce is often a convenient, budget-friendly way to add more variety to your meals.

A few freezer staples we love:

🫐 Berries for smoothies, oatmeal and yogurt
🥦 Broccoli for stir-fries and sheet-pan meals
🫛 Peas for soups, pasta and fried rice
🥭 Mango for smoothies and snacks
🥬 Spinach for eggs, sauces and soups

No washing. No chopping. Less food waste. 🙌

Fresh, frozen and canned produce can all have a place in a nourishing diet. Choose what works for your budget, schedule and household!

What fruit or vegetable is always in your freezer?
