When someone from our region needs specialized care in Kelowna, their loved ones can find a home away from at JoeAnna’s House. In the words of Les, who found himself there after his wife was in a head-on collision, “JoeAnna’s House is irreplaceable…it’s the community you need when you feel alone.”

The new 10 bed expansion scheduled for completion in August 2026 will ensure that more East Kootenay families are able to access this incredible support in Kelowna when they need it most.

May is a month filled with meaningful opportunities to learn, connect, and show up for those impacted by severe and persistent mental illness such as schizophrenia and psychosis.

Join us on Wednesday, May 20th at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital and hospitals, long term care homes, and health centres across the region in wearing purple. Bonnie Spence-Vinge from the BC Schizophrenia Society will also be present with a table in the East Kootenay Regional Hospital Lobby to share information about ways to reduce stigma and address misunderstandings around mental health.

On May 24, in recognition of Schizophrenia & Psychosis Awareness Day, landmarks across British Columbia will also be lit up in purple.

JoeAnna’s House is a Home Away from Home for families when they need it most. We’re working with foundation partners across Interior BC to help add ten beds to the home.
