Fifty people in one sauna sounds like a lot. That’s the question we designed around.

Kevin and I wanted a room big enough to share that still feels calm once you’re inside. So we started with the walk in. A heavy cedar door. Tiers that curve around the heater, so you can sit wherever feels right. Lighting that changes with the session, and no scent except steam.

Almost half of Canadian workers say they’re burned out.

I used to think being tired and running on fumes was just how a regular Thursday felt.

Back-to-back meetings. Slack at 9pm. Wearing burnout like it proved something. I didn’t see how normal it had become until I stepped away from tech and visited my first sauna class.

That’s a big part of why we’re building Circa. Your phone goes in a locker for seventy-five minutes of your day. A guide leads you through heat, then cold, then rest, and nobody needs an answer from you.

I sold my tech company and everyone had the same question: “What’s next, Marissa?”

I didn’t really have an answer.

But I kept thinking about our weekly sauna and cold plunge in Toronto. Kevin and I would go, and I could feel my shoulders drop an inch. I’d sleep better that night. I could sit across from a friend or colleague for two hours, with nothing but heat and cold between us, without needing a drink.

The amenities mattered less to me than how I felt afterward.

When I came back to Edmonton in the dead of winter, I looked for that same experience. But, It didn’t exist here.

I kept thinking about it until I started wondering: “What if we built it ourselves?”

We knew how much those weekly visits meant to us, and we wanted to bring that experience here.

Now we’re building Circa Thermal Studio, a contrast therapy space with sauna and cold plunge in southwest Edmonton. Opening in 2027.

We’re bringing inspiration for the guided sauna and cold plunge programming we’re introducing at Circa this October, and we cannot wait to experience it with you.
