What if your baby doesn’t enjoy massage?

You stop.

It really can be that simple.

One of the things I love about infant massage education is that it isn’t just about learning where to put your hands.

It’s also about learning to notice what your baby is communicating.

Sometimes they’re saying, “Yes, I like this.”

Sometimes they’re saying, “Not right now.”

And sometimes they’re saying, “I’m done.”

All three are worth listening to.

There may be days when your baby is happy to receive massage and days when they’re not interested at all. That’s completely okay.

You don’t need to force the moment or feel like you’ve failed because you didn’t finish the routine.

The goal isn’t a perfect massage. The goal is connection.

Save this for the next time you’re wondering whether your baby is ready for massage, and share it with a parent or caregiver who might need the reminder.

One of the most important things I teach through infant massage education is that your baby’s cues matter.

Massage doesn’t need to be a perfectly completed routine.

Your baby might be enjoying the touch one minute and need a break the next.

That’s okay.

Pause. Observe. Respond.

You don’t need to force the moment to continue just because you planned to massage.

And if your baby consistently seems uncomfortable, distressed, or unwell, stop the massage and consider whether something else may be going on.

Infant massage is about more than learning techniques.

It’s an opportunity to become more familiar with your baby’s communication through touch, movement, and behaviour.

Infant massage doesn’t need to look perfect to be meaningful.

Your baby may tell you they’re ready for touch. They may tell you they need a break. They may be interested one day and not the next.

That’s part of the process.

When I teach infant massage, I want parents and caregivers to feel confident not only in how to use nurturing touch, but also in recognizing when their baby is saying yes, not right now, or I’m finished.

Because infant massage isn’t about following a routine perfectly.

It’s about connection, communication, and responsive touch.

Save this for the next time you wonder whether your baby is “doing it right.”

They probably are. They’re just communicating in their own way.

I think I’ve been trying to rebuild too much, too quickly.

There’s something about stepping back from a routine that makes you want to make up for lost time.

Post more.
Do more.
Catch up.
Get everything back to where it was.

But I’m learning that rebuilding doesn’t have to look like that.

Sometimes it looks like returning slowly.

Showing up when you have the capacity to be present.
Choosing what actually matters.
Making room for the people and things outside of work.
Letting your business grow alongside your life instead of constantly competing with it.

I’m still here. Still working with clients. Still learning. Still growing. And still figuring out what a sustainable version of all of this looks like for me.

Maybe rebuilding isn’t about getting back to where you were.

Maybe it’s about creating something that fits who you are now.

No need to immediately return to a busy environment.

Instead, you can settle into your own space and receive individualized care where you feel most comfortable.

They may look away.

They may make noises.
They may decide they are finished.

These are not interruptions to the massage. They are communication.

Infant massage is not about completing a routine perfectly. It is about learning to notice your baby’s cues and responding with patience, connection, and care.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is pause.

Sometimes it is changing the position, taking a break, or trying again another day.

There is no need to rush. Your baby’s comfort comes first.

Lately, I’ve been reminded that rebuilding does not always mean starting over.

Sometimes it means returning slowly.

Returning to the things that matter.
Returning to the work you love.
Returning to your own pace.
Returning to the people you are grateful to care for.

I’m continuing to find a balance between being present for my clients, growing my business, and making space for life outside of work.

That balance may look different from what I originally imagined, but different does not mean unsuccessful.

So, this is a small return.

A reminder that I’m still here, still providing mobile massage therapy, and still making room for meaningful work that supports people in the comfort of their own homes.

I’ve been a little quiet lately.

If you’ve noticed fewer posts, there’s a reason.

Since the beginning of June, I’ve been navigating a significant flare-up. While I’ve continued showing up in person for my clients, I simply haven’t had the capacity to also show up online in the way I want to.

Over the past couple of months, my focus has shifted to something I’ve spent a lot of time encouraging others to do: slowing down and listening to my body.

As my healthcare team continues to investigate what’s going on, one of my doctors recently told me we’re “entering fibromyalgia territory.” While I don’t have all the answers yet, it’s been another reminder that healing isn’t always linear, and sometimes our bodies ask us to move differently than we’d planned.

So that’s what I’ve been doing.

I’ve been choosing presence over pressure.

I’ve been making space for rest.

I’ve been spending intentional time with my family.

And I’ve been learning that sometimes the most productive thing we can do is honour what our body is asking for.

Although I’ve been quieter here, my practice hasn’t stopped.

I’m still seeing clients.

I’m still sending my monthly newsletters.

I’m still teaching, learning, and showing up for the people who trust me with their care.

For now, my online presence may continue to be a little quieter than usual. Rather than posting just to stay active, I’d rather be present when I do show up.

Thank you for your patience, your understanding, and for continuing to support my small business through this season.

I’m looking forward to sharing more when I have the capacity to do so.

Until then, you’ll still find me doing what I love most: caring for my clients, one treatment at a time.

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is:

“I’ll book a massage when I’m in pain.”

The reality is that our bodies often communicate with us long before pain shows up.

Maybe it’s the tension in your shoulders that never seems to go away.

The headaches that have become “normal.”

Feeling stiff every morning.

Restless sleep.

Difficulty relaxing.

Or simply feeling disconnected from your body.

These are all ways your body may be asking for your attention.

Pain is important, but it’s only one form of communication.

As a massage therapist, one of my goals isn’t just to help reduce pain. It’s to help people reconnect with their bodies. To notice the subtle changes, understand what their body is telling them, and respond before those whispers become shouts.

This doesn’t mean every ache requires treatment, but it does mean our bodies deserve to be listened to.

The more we learn to pay attention, the better equipped we are to care for ourselves.

People often see the treatment itself, but there’s so much more that goes into a day as a mobile massage therapist.

Here’s a little glimpse behind the scenes of one of my days…

Letting life be.
Starting the day with a reminder that not everything needs to be rushed or controlled.

Replenish & rehydrate.
Caring for others starts with caring for myself.

Fueling my body.
A busy afternoon of treatments means making sure I have the energy to show up fully for each client.

Prepping for a long afternoon.
Packing my table, supplies, and everything needed to bring the clinic to my clients.

Supporting clients at every stage of life.
From prenatal and postpartum care to athletes, busy parents, and seniors, every treatment is tailored to the individual in front of me.

Stepmom duties.
One of my favourite roles, woven into the rhythm of everyday life.

Admin time.
Responding to messages, charting treatments, planning content, and everything else that happens behind the scenes of running a business.

Helping relieve tension.
The part of my day most people think about. But, it’s only one piece of the bigger picture.

A regular date with Petro-Canada.
The less glamorous side of mobile massage! My car is my office between appointments, so fuel stops are simply part of the job.

Ending the day by serving myself.
After spending the day supporting others, I make time to support myself, too. Whether it’s stretching, slowing down, enjoying a quiet moment, or simply checking in with how I’m feeling, it’s my way of thanking my body, my mind, and my soul for carrying me through another day.

Being a massage therapist is about so much more than the hour I spend with a client. It’s about showing up with intention, staying present, and making sure I have the capacity to give my best. Both to the people I care for and to myself.
