Sending your child back to school when they have Type 1 Diabetes can feel overwhelming, but a clear plan creates a safe environment where your child can thrive ๐Ÿ’™ ๐Ÿ“š

As parents or caregivers, setting up strong routines and communication channels ensures school staff are equipped to support your child throughout the day.

A massive thank you to Dr. David Campbell, Lindsay Huard, and the team behind the Calgary Diabetes Mobile Clinic (DMC) for joining us at Rockโ€™n August! ๐Ÿš‘

Their presence helped advance the Alberta Diabetes Foundationโ€™s mission to serve as a vital conduit of care, bringing prevention, education, and health assessments directly to festival attendees.

By providing free, on-the-spot A1C blood testing following a quick diabetes risk assessment, the clinic removed traditional healthcare barriers and reached individuals who might not otherwise have been screened.

Diabetes Mobile Clinic Results at Rockโ€™n August:

๐Ÿ“‹ 70 Individuals Pre-Screened using personal risk factor questionnaires.

๐Ÿ”ฌ 53 On-the-Spot A1C Tests Completed:

โœ… 4 individuals with known diabetes
โœ… 6 individuals with known prediabetes
โœ… 43 individuals with previously unknown diabetes status

Among the 43 people tested whose diabetes status was previously unknown, the team detected 2 new cases of diabetes and 1 new case of prediabetes. Catching these conditions early is critical to preventing long-term complications and connecting individuals with the care they need.

The Calgary Diabetes Mobile Clinic (DMC) is a program from The Alex and the University of Calgary, aimed at assisting the most vulnerable populations. Each Wednesday, the four staff members aboard the diabetes bus typically see an average of 5 to 10 patients. Rather than dealing with a complex series of appointments, patients can simply step onto the DMC to access a comprehensive range of services.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the clinic, as well as the sponsors and donors whose generosity makes mobile care accessible across our province!

We had such a fantastic time yesterday at the 2026 Kids 'n' Us Golf Tournament as the official Snack Hole sponsor! โ›ณ

More than just a great day on the green, this tournament plays a vital role in fundraising for the annual kidsnus.ca Families Facing Diabetes Conference in May.

This annual conference is the only event of its kind in Alberta, and they provide education, resources, and community connection for families navigating type 1 diabetes.

We loved connecting with the golfers, volunteers, and organizers driving this meaningful initiative forward. Thank you for having us! ๐Ÿ’™
