Neck lines don't all come from the same place, but they're often treated like they do.

Vertical bands are usually linked to the platysma, the muscle that runs from the collarbone up to the jaw. As it shifts with age, it can create the visible banding some call "turkey neck."

Horizontal lines are a different story. These tend to come from connective tissue beneath the skin gradually pulling downward, and genetics can have more to do with it than people assume.

A common myth worth clearing up: looking down at your phone isn't the real driver behind "tech neck." It may play a small part, but the actual cause sits deeper.

Because the causes are different, so is the plan. Wrinkle relaxing injectables can help with vertical bands, but they aren't built for horizontal lines, which call for a different strategy altogether.

Lower face neuromodulator treatments are seriously underrated. A few favourite areas to treat: the gummy smile, relaxing the muscle that pulls the upper lip up for a more balanced smile. The lip flip, helping the upper lip stay put when you smile so more of it shows. The chin, softening dimpling for a smoother look. The DAO, easing that downward pull for a more relaxed lower face. Peel menus are written for the clinic, not for you. Names, percentages, numbers that mean nothing unless you already know what they mean.

Start with the concern instead.

Breakouts and congestion want a peel that gets into the pore to clear oil and buildup, usually salicylic. Dullness and uneven tone want brightening, usually lactic or glycolic. Fine lines and texture want resurfacing, often a Jessner or TCA blend, done as a series rather than a one-off.

Two things people don't get told. Downtime varies a lot between peels, so we match it to your calendar as well as your skin. And skin tone matters. Deeper tones can respond to the wrong peel with more pigment rather than less, which is why we assess first and sometimes start lighter than you'd expect.

September is the right month for this. UV is dropping, which is exactly when pigment work should be scheduled.

Most people book the treatment they've heard of. Then they wonder why it didn't do the thing they wanted.

Every one of these treatments is good. They're just good at different jobs.

Dull, congested, dehydrated skin is a surface problem. A HydraFacial cleanses, extracts and hydrates in one pass, and you walk out looking better with nothing to hide.

Sun spots and uneven tone sit deeper. That needs a peel or the Clarity II laser, and September is the right month for it now that UV is dropping.

Texture, scarring and fine lines are structural. Microneedling or Potenza RF work by prompting your own collagen, so results build over months rather than showing up the same afternoon.

If you're looking at all three and thinking yes, that's normal. Most faces have more than one thing going on, and the order you treat them in matters. That's what the consult sorts out.
