Hello everyone! 👋
There’s been a huge surge in the popularity of Pilates lately 💥💥💥 And while I love seeing more people discover the benefits of this incredible practice, it also comes with a lot of misinformation about what Pilates actually is—and who is qualified to teach it safely and effectively.
I felt it was time to introduce myself, especially for those of you who are just starting out or questioning the validity, safety, and effectiveness of Pilates.
I’m a STOTT PILATES® Certified Instructor with over 15 years of teaching experience.
STOTT PILATES was founded by the brilliant Moira Stott-Merrithew, who refined the original Pilates Method by incorporating contemporary scientific research, biomechanics, and intelligent movement principles. Today, STOTT PILATES is one of the most respected names in the industry, with more than 80,000 certified instructors worldwide. It is internationally recognized and continually develops evidence-informed education and programming for instructors.
I share this because, unfortunately, there is a lot of content online being presented as “Pilates” that may not reflect safe or appropriate Pilates principles. I can’t speak to the training or certification of any individual instructor, but I can tell you that as STOTT PILATES instructors, we are trained to prioritize safe, effective movement, thoughtful programming, and clear cueing so that you can work within a framework that is both challenging and supportive.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of studying under some of the most respected Master Instructor Trainers in the field and practicing alongside incredibly talented STOTT PILATES instructors. I’ve also completed numerous continuing-education courses covering injuries and specialized populations, movement efficiency, rehabilitation principles, and much more.
My goal is always to provide safe, current, effective, and individualized training.
When you work with a certified STOTT PILATES instructor, you expect thoughtfully curated programming, flexibility around your goals, and—when appropriate—communication and coordination with your rehabilitation or healthcare practitioners.
Pilates is so much more than a collection of exercises. When taught thoughtfully, the Method can be an incredibly powerful tool for improving strength, mobility, control, awareness, and confidence in how you move.
I’d love the opportunity to work with you and show you how a program built around the Pilates Method can support your goals. ❤️
P.S. Before purchasing an online package or taking classes from an instructor, please take a moment to look at their credentials. Look for the word CERTIFIED, find out who they are certified through, and take a few minutes to research the certifying organization. Your body deserves an instructor who has invested in the education necessary to teach you safely and effectively. 👍
