Carmen Hutt Movement Carmen has been practicing yoga on a daily basis for the past 15 years.

Her initial intrigue came after years of long distance running, looking for something softer, and on her initial trip to India in 2002 she tried yoga and was hooked. She took her initial ashtanga yoga teacher training (200 hr) with Brian Cooper in Edinburgh, Scotland, then spent long periods of time in India with Lino Miele ( Italy) and Rolf and Marcy Naukojat ( Goa). She has also completed week l

ong intensives with David Williams, David Swenson, Dharma Mittra, Ana Forrest, and Shiva Rea. She has since completed her advanced yoga teacher training ( 2015) and therapeutics with Hart Lazer ( Yoga Montreal), Pelvic Floor yoga teacher certification with Leslie Howard ( California), is a Functional Range Mobility Specialist ( FRC), and has most recently delved into the world of STOTT Pilates, having certified in Pilates Mat, Reformer, and Total Barre.

More programming using the ball🔮this week. Doing midback work here .

🔮place small ball under your pelvis. find the ‘sweet spot’- not under your lumbar curve or too far towards your tailbone . Just under the sacrum .

🔮put the spring tension down . I usually do 2 reds for midback but went down to a red and blue . Adds more@instability .

🔮anchor through your centre . Start small. Maybe just legs movements with stability with arms down along side of carriage . Once mastered add the hands in straps . Work slowly . Add more moving parts once you feel solid .

🔮the ball adds so much here . Greater awareness , concentration and definately connection from the centre .

When teaching I always add a mat component no matter the piece of equipment we are using . This week we are using a small ball in my programming and it can definately 💡 things up !

With this roll up and twists I like that it gives a sense of focus and can also be helpful
getting the connection from shoulder to hip ., especially with the twists .

The key to these few exercises is to push hand and leg into opposition . Spine doesn’t move .

Your centre will fire up and the PF will work too !

Then add some movement to that other leg . Marching , leg slides . Keep the opposition !

Love this one ! And can come back to the sensation throughout your practice !

Class movements for the upper body on repeat the past few weeks - even doing sets .

Pushing and pulling . Think carrying heavy objects , lifting things overhead , slamming and opening doors , paddling and swimming in the ocean .

Getting stronger helps make all these movements feel way more efficient and better !

Teaching 1:1 is very different and requires a different skill set than teaching a large class. Its about learning about your client , what they do all the time , even their dogs name .

As an instructor you need to be able to read the client , get an understanding of what movements their body can and cannot do & how you can modify the movement for them so they are successful .

Mind you not all is created equal and there are just alot of things some bodies cannot do - not do to lack of will but due to that persons particular anatomy. As an instructor you have to work around these and provide alternatives that help the client to improve and progress .

This way the client is always winning ! Being successful and progressing!

Standing roll-downs into extension at the tower — exploring spinal movement with control.

The goal isn’t to keep the spine rigid.
It’s to build options, adaptability, and confidence through movement.

Flexion and extension both have value when they’re trained progressively and intentionally.

This is what evidence-informed Pilates looks like to me:
not avoiding movement, but understanding it.

I love exploring on the equipment , doing new fun moves , adding resistance or taking it away and see how I respond . I teach from the basics as most Pilates teachers should and progress into bigger movements ( may not be physically big) as individuals grow .

Throughout the week I teach . I teach the basics first , then follow repertoire til clients click with it . Then I start adding variety and layering so everyone is progressing in some way . This adds so much more to my teaching and the enjoyment for my students. Starting to see and feel how the dots connect to make a full practice .

I correct form but let people experience the movements how their own bodies can adapt to them . That way everyone wins at doing Pilates.

Some people believe Pilates is about perfection .👌 Perfect movement 👌

I too get that from my comprehensive training but since teaching I feel I want people to experience the learning of the movement .

Then the small adjustments , the coaching , and the confidence that builds when something finally clicks 🥳

I always want clients to feel seen , supported , challenged and successful . Not just put through the paces or through the wringer .

This has gotta be one of my favorites ! ( though I have a million !)

Reverse knee stretch . Pulling exercise while staying stiff in the spine - hands slightly ahead of a quadruped position . Pull yourself from under the armpits - not into neck .

You will definately feel that center connection.

Doing on one full spring here but could drop down to half and still have all the feels !
