💭 Have you ever wondered what really happens when you choose an epidural during labor?
Most women hear about epidurals as a simple solution for the intensity of labor.🤔
But have you ever wondered what happens to the rest of the birth process when sensation is reduced?
An epidural can be an important and helpful option for some women. At the same time, it changes aspects of normal labor physiology and may lead to:
👉🏻additional monitoring
👉🏻IV fluids
👉🏻a urinary catheter
👉🏻reduced mobility
and sometimes medications such as Pitocin.
That doesn’t make an epidural “good” or “bad.”
It means you deserve to understand the whole picture before you’re in labor making decisions.❤️
In my newest blog, I explore:
✨ What an epidural actually does
✨ How it can affect movement and contractions
✨ Why blood pressure and baby monitoring may increase
✨ Why Pitocin may sometimes become part of the picture
✨ How medication can affect the baby
✨ Why understanding your nervous system and preparing for labor matters
✨ Questions to ask yourself before deciding what you would love for your birth
One of the most important questions you can ask yourself during pregnancy is:
“Am I choosing this because it is what I truly want—or because I’ve been taught that I won’t be able to handle birth without it?”
There is power in understanding your choices.🌿
Your birth belongs to you.
