Dietetic Directions

Dietetic Directions Dietetic Directions is a nutritional counselling & education company. We are all about eating well & loving life! Professional speaking and Media work available.

One-on-one or couple dietary counselling available with a Registered Dietitian. I want you to have a healthy lifestyle that you can actually enjoy. Why? Because I LOVE food! And food shouldn’t hold you back. I want to help you enjoy what you eat, create healthy habits, and live a deprivation-free life that leaves you feeling great! As a little girl growing up in an Italian-Canadian family, we had

family gatherings centered around food. My Nonno was a chef for the Italian army and my Mom studied nutrition. In my opinion, there’s nothing better than a bowl of homemade gnocchi with a fresh tomato sauce! (Just ask and I’ll give you my Nonno’s recipe.) I knew I was meant to become a Registered Dietitian when I realized how passionate I was about helping people, and sharing the joy that comes with having a healthy relationship with food. The ability to learn, teach, and inspire is what brought me into this evolving field. I founded Dietetic Directions in 2012 with the goal of building a place where people could receive personalized, motivational nutrition education that’s science-based and rooted in creating habits that fit your lifestyle. If you’re looking for guidance and support to discover how to eat well and love your life, I can help you every step of the way! Healthfully yours,
Andrea

From sunny summer days to crisp fall evenings, there’s nothing better than celebrating the flavours of the harvest season. 🌽 🍂

Fresh-picked corn is a true farm-to-table favourite — sweet, simple, and at its best when enjoyed close to the source. Roasting brings out its natural sweetness and adds a delicious smoky, golden finish that makes this seasonal staple shine. ✨

Whether it’s coming from a local farm stand, your garden, or the farmers’ market, this Roasted Corn recipe is a beautiful way to savour the transition from summer abundance to autumn gatherings.

Celebrate the season’s harvest with a dish that’s fresh, flavourful, and made for sharing. 🌽 🤎

Balanced bentos are the perfect make-ahead lunch! 🤗 Don’t want to say it but back-to-school is right around the corner!

📌 Save for my fool-proof formula to make a balanced bento box! 😉

Here’s how I make Balanced Bento Boxes: ⬇️

1️⃣ Carb - for your fuel or energy source. Homemade muffins are a favourite and I always have them stocked in my freezer to pull for quick snacks.

2️⃣ Protein - keeps you feeling full and helps you grow 💪! My go-to protein always in the fridge is plain Greek yogurt (or cottage cheese) and love hard cooked eggs. They take only about 10 minutes to make and last in the fridge for a week.

3️⃣ Veggies - fibre, vitamin and mineral boost. Pre-cut your favourite veggies in advance and they’ll be ready to add to your bento box.

Are you a bento box lover?

🎉 Happy 14th Anniversary to Dietetic Directions! 🥕🥂✨

14 years of simplifying nutrition, celebrating food, supporting clients, creating delicious recipes, and—most importantly—building an incredible community. ❤️

What started with a passion for food, nutrition, and helping others has grown into something I’m incredibly proud of. From one-on-one nutrition counselling and individualized, evidence-based strategies to TV appearances, recipe videos, blogging, and nutrition education, the goal has always stayed the same: make nutrition feel practical, positive, and sustainable. 🥑🍎

A huge ❤️ THANK YOU to our amazing nutrition team! Our counselling dietitians Laura Bender, Sonia Khurmi, Chelsea Cross & Laura Baum bring so much knowledge, compassion, creativity, and heart to the work they do every day.

And of course, we couldn’t do it without our incredible support team—Muireann, our admin extraordinaire, fantastic nutrition students, and blog editor Lauren. Teamwork truly makes the dream work! ☀️

🥰 To our amazing clients: thank you for trusting us with your nutrition journeys, sharing your experiences, and referring your friends and family. It’s a privilege to support you!

And to the wonderful brands and partners we’ve had the opportunity to work with over the years—thank you for being part of the journey! 💕

🥕 14 years later, our mission remains simple: take the overwhelm out of nutrition, make food fun, approachable and help people feel confident creating meals and habits that work for their lives.

Here’s to another year of learning, laughing, cooking, eating, and making nutrition a little easier—one bite at a time!

Thank you for being part of the Dietetic Directions community! ❤️

📌 Save for: Dietitian-Approved Iron-Rich Recipes ✨

Iron deficiency is one of the most common nutritional deficiencies and plays an important role in overall health. 💪

🩸 We need iron to help make red blood cells that transport oxygen throughout the body, support brain and immune function, maintain healthy skin, hair, and nails, and provide energy.

There are two types of iron:
🥩 Heme iron — the most easily absorbed form of iron, found in foods like meat, poultry, fish, and shellfish. Meats contain non-heme iron too.
🌱 Non-heme iron — Less well absorbed (around 3 to 20% absorption) but much more abundant form of dietary iron. Found primarily in plant foods like legumes, grains, nuts, seeds, some vegetables, and fortified foods.

💡 Dietitian Tip: Pair iron-rich foods with a source of vitamin C to help increase absorption! Great options include broccoli, bell peppers, sweet potatoes, strawberries, and oranges.

It also helps to avoid having coffee, tea, calcium supplements, or high amounts of fibre at the same time as iron-rich meals or iron supplements to support better absorption.

Try these easy and delicious recipe ideas to help increase iron intake:

✅ Tofu Green Curry with Shrimp

✅ Summer Chili Bowls

✅ Quinoa, Lentil & Sausage Stuffed Peppers

💥 All these recipes can be found on DieteticDirections.com (link in bio). Just search for the recipe you’d like to try!
