The relationship between eating late and stressed lymphatics
Last night I had to have supper late and it prompted me to share about it in my stories. So I also wanted to share as a post because I think this is really important information
Did you know that according to Oriental Medicine, digestion slows significantly after 7pm. Eating late forces the spleen & stomach to overwork during the body's repair phase, leading to dampness & poor sleep. The spleen is one of the major lymph organs.
Dampness is of special interest in my practice because it is the accumulation of fluid in the body. Think swelling, bloating, puffiness, sluggishness, heaviness, mucus, etc.
So if you suffer from those symptoms, or even sleep issues, try to stop eating before 7pm, and eat a light, mineral-rich meal between 5-7pm
Additionally, try to eat a warm, protein-rich meal between 7-9am and again between 9-11am to support both the spleen & stomach
I think it goes without saying that fasting until supper time is a recipe for dampness disaster. The fasting culture has been extremely detrimental to women's lymphatic health & I see the impact of it daily in my practice
If you do wish to fast and see how your body does with it, it is best to do it between 7pm-7am as it the body's natural regenerative time. If you get cravings around 7pm, then it means you didn't nourish yourself enough during the day, or that you may have the presence of candida and/or parasites in your body. But that is a whole other topic to discuss!

For the conclusion of this mini series on living life in the flow, I wanted to talk about capacity. In short, if all you have one day is 20% and you gave your 20%, you gave your 100%.
Going through a prolonged season of change sometimes forces an uncomfortable truth to the surface: our energy is a finite resource, and ignoring our limits doesn't make us resilient—it just burns us out.
Honoring my capacity meant listening to the subtle cues my body and mind were giving me before they turned into full-blown exhaustion. It meant saying "no" without offering a long explanation, accepting that my output couldn't look the same as it used to, and allowing rest to be a non-negotiable priority rather than a reward I had to earn. When you respect your own limits, you stop fighting yourself—and you protect the energy you need to actually heal.
Honoring your capacity isn't weakness or slacking off—it is an act of deep self-respect that allows you to show up sustainably for your life, your work, and the people who depend on you.

When our personal life is in upheaval, the fear of dropping the ball can sometimes be paralyzing. A lot of us have been conditioned to believe that if we aren't constantly hustling, everything will crumble.
For me, when everything hit at once and required me to take a step back, I gave myself the grace to let go of the noise, simply because I didn't have the capacity. I barely touched my marketing, social media, website, podcast or newsletter for fifteen months. I stopped playing the algorithms and tuned out the endless noise telling us we constantly have to produce, post, and perform to stay relevant. I poured my limited bandwidth solely into the human beings sitting right in front of me in the room.
The unexpected gift? My practice didn't fall apart; it actually grew. Stripping away the excess noise forced me to realize that true growth doesn't come from constant hustle or digital noise; it comes from real, present impact. Giving myself grace to stop performing revealed that the foundation I’d built was already strong. Realizing my business can sustain itself—and even thrive—when I need healing time has given me a deep, lasting peace I didn't know was possible.
So often, we spend so much energy managing the noise around us out of fear that stepping back will break what we've built. But tuning out the non-essentials gave me back my time, my peace, and the quiet confidence that true stability is built on real connection, not endless output.

For the last fifteen months, life happened behind the scenes in ways I never could have anticipated. Now that the dust is settling, I wanted to reconnect with you all, and share a bit of what that season looked like. Over the next few days, I will share a few of the core lessons that carried me through to the other side. Because you know me, I always try to share the lessons!
Lesson #3 - Live a purposeful life
Because when life pulls the rug from under you, you purpose will always be there to lean on. My purpose in life is to help people with swelling/bloating/puffiness/sluggishness issues feel better & function better in everyday life.
Purpose to me isn't a goal you reach when life is smooth; it is the anchor that holds you steady when the sea gets rough. In the hardest moments of these past fifteen months, having a clear "why" gave me something real to hold onto. It wasn't about pushing through out of obligation; it was about letting my purpose carry me when my own strength wasn't enough. When you align your life with what truly matters, no storm can wash that foundation away.
On the days when I didn't know what the future looked like, showing up for my purpose gave me direction, meaning, and a reason to keep stepping forward. Live with intention, ground yourself in what matters, and let your purpose be the anchor that holds you through the chaos.
And your purpose doesn't have to be something grandiose. Purpose can be as simple as being fully present for the person sitting across from you. It’s showing up to nurture your garden, cooking a nourishing meal for your family, caring deeply for a sick pet, or holding space for a friend who is hurting. These small, intentional moments of service and connection can be an incredible anchor. Purpose isn't about how big you shine; it’s about having a meaningful "why" behind the small things you do every day to keep you grounded when the world feels chaotic.

Over the next couple of days, I am sharing some of the lessons I was reminded of over the past 15 months. From an energetic standpoint, living in the flow is important for healthy lymphatics, but also for general wellness!
When life gets messy, it can force us into survival mode, and in that space, we will make mistakes, feel overwhelmed, say the wrong things, or simply fall apart. Learning to give ourselves grace means stopping the inner trial. It means forgiving ourselves for not having all the answers, for being exhausted, and for taking things one shaky step at a time
This is a reminder to be gentle with yourself when you're in the dark. You are a human being navigating unprecedented weight, not a machine—and you deserve the same fierce, gentle compassion you so freely extend to everyone else. As healers and practitioners especially, we often hold ourselves to an impossible standard—expecting ourselves to navigate life's worst storms with seamless grace and infinite resilience. But crisis strips away the luxury of perfection
Giving myself grace meant releasing the guilt for my limits. It meant accepting that some days, just showing up and breathing was a victory. When everything is changing at once, you have to be your own safest harbor. Give yourself permission to be imperfect, to mourn, to misstep, and to heal at your own pace. You are doing the best you can with the capacity you have in this moment
What are the way you can choose to give yourself more grace today?
Love, Gen xx

Over the next couple of days, I am sharing some of the lessons I was reminded of over the past 15 months. From an energetic standpoint, living in the flow is important for healthy lymphatics, but also for general wellness!
The first and most important of all, is to surrender. I used to think that resilience meant staying strong against the pressure. At least that is what society has taught us. When every pillar of life shifts at once, the default human response is to brace for impact and try to hold the walls up. For a long time, I thought strength meant staying rigid, keeping control, and pushing back against every unplanned change. But the lymphatic system taught me that true resilience is synonymous with fluidity, with letting go
Healing cannot begin in a state of resistance. Fighting reality keeps the body in a perpetual fight-or-flight cycle. Surrendering was the moment I stopped trying to control outcomes that were never mine to control. It allowed my system to come off high alert, softening the internal grip so I could honor the changes and the losses, adapt to the shifts, and gain the stability & clarity needed to keep navigating forward
You cannot heal what you are actively trying to deny or outrun. Fully surrendering isn't passive; it's an active decision to stop spending vital energy on things outside your sphere of control. Surrendering isn't a single moment of enlightenment; it is a daily, sometimes hourly, choice to unclench your jaw, accept the reality of the present moment, and trust that you can handle whatever comes next
What areas of your life are you still trying to control, and what could be possible if you completely let go of the outcome?

For the last fifteen months, life happened behind the scenes in ways I never could have anticipated. As someone who spends their work days guiding others toward balance, healing, and a life more "in the flow", going through my own season of profound disruption was a humbling reminder of what resilience actually looks like, both on the inside and the outside. I’m stepping out of this short chapter with a deeper perspective, new lessons, and a refined sense of purpose, both for myself and for the work I do. And I don't think I would have gotten to this outcome any other way.

Walking through a relentless tide of loss and uncertainty (pet loss, separation, family health scare, multiple unexpected moves, etc.) forced me to practice every single truth I hold dear about grief, capacity, and nervous system regulation. Surprinsingly, despite all the hardship, I am now healthier, happier and my business is even better because of it. And there's nothing more I wish for, for anyone going through a hard time right now.

Life doesn’t ask for permission before shifting our ground. Navigating a personal season of intense challenges tested me in ways I didn't see coming, but it also brought a quiet clarity to my life & work. Now that the dust is settling, I wanted to reconnect with you all, and share a bit of what that season looked like. In the next few days, I will take the opportunity to share the core lessons that carried me through to the other side, and hopefully give you a nugget or two to apply to your own life to live more "in the flow". Because you know me, I always try to share the lessons!

Here's a sneak peek:
1 - Stop resisting, then surrender
2 - Give yourself grace
3 - Live a purposeful life
4 - Strip the noise
5 - Honor your capacity

See you around the next couple of days!
Love, Gen xx

Remember folks! Brazilian Lymphatic Massage is not lymph drainage. It is a sculpting massage with temporary results and brings no real lymphatic benefits. The beauty industry is yet again capitalizing on a trend and people are being mislead and that is so unfortunate.

I always love being asked about it because I deal with this on the weekly in my clinic!

Today I had the pleasure of talking to so many people about lymphatic health at the Shediac Wellness Market!

When I go to events, I bring all my retail stock with me and focus less on promoting services. People are often surprised when I tell them that I carry a lot of personal care products and tools because 90% of lymphatic work is done at home and in your daily life.

Working with the lymphatic system is rarely working with "just" the lymphatic system. It's about supporting the flow of the whole body so the lymphatic system doesn't have to work so hard. Unfortunately, very few lymphatic habits make it into modern lifestyles.

Having breakfast everyday to feed the furnace, practicing deep breathing daily to massage the thoracic duct, meditating to calm down the nervous sytem, dry brushing to stimulate the skin - a primary detox pathway, drinking tea for the bitterness of the plants that the lymphatic system loves so much.

Helping the lymphatic system doesn't start with the question "How do I fix it?", it starts by asking "How can I support my body today?" and this is what I am here to help people with, whether it is with manual drainage services, naturopathic consultations or personal care!
