🌿 Mental Health Education: What Is Resilience?

Resilience is the ability to move through challenges, adapt to change, and continue forward while caring for yourself along the way.

It does not mean that difficult experiences don’t affect you. It also doesn’t mean staying positive all the time, handling everything alone, or never needing rest or support.

Resilience grows through everyday experiences, such as:
💚 Asking for help when you need it
💚 Adjusting your plans when something changes
💚 Using a coping skill during a stressful moment
💚 Resting and trying again another day
💚 Learning from something that didn’t go as expected
💚 Setting a boundary to protect your well-being
💚 Connecting with people who support you
💚 Recognizing the progress you have already made

Resilience isn’t something you either have or don’t have. It can develop gradually through practice, support, and lived experience.
Having a difficult day doesn’t mean you aren’t resilient. Sometimes resilience looks like simply making it through the day and giving yourself another chance tomorrow.

What is one experience that has helped your resilience grow? 🌱

🌱 Motivation Monday

“Every new beginning starts with one decision to try.”

As we settle into September, remember that a new beginning doesn’t require a perfect plan or a dramatic change. It can start with one small, meaningful decision.

That decision might be:
💚 Attending a new class
💚 Asking someone for support
💚 Restarting a routine
💚 Trying a different coping strategy
💚 Setting a healthy boundary
💚 Taking one step toward something that matters to you

Trying doesn’t guarantee everything will be easy, but it creates the possibility for learning, connection, and growth. If the first attempt doesn’t go as planned, you are always allowed to adjust and try again.

What is one decision you can make today to support the month ahead? 🌿

✨ Feel Good Friday: Try Something New!

This weekend’s wellness challenge is simple: try one new thing.

Trying something new doesn’t have to mean pushing yourself far outside your comfort zone. It can be small, familiar, and still offer a fresh experience.

You could:
🌿 Walk a different route
🎵 Listen to a new artist or podcast
🥗 Try a new recipe or snack
🎨 Experiment with a creative activity
📚 Read something outside your usual interests
🧘 Try a new breathing or grounding technique
☕ Visit a different community space
💬 Start a conversation with someone you trust

Choose something that feels interesting and manageable. Pay attention to what you enjoyed, what you learned, or how you felt afterward.

What new thing will you try this weekend? 💚

💚 Course Spotlight: Self-Compassion

We often offer patience and understanding to the people we care about—but find it much harder to extend that same kindness to ourselves.

Our three-session Self-Compassion course offers a supportive space to explore:
🌿 Responding to yourself with greater kindness
🌿 Recognizing and challenging harsh self-talk
🌿 Managing difficult emotions and setbacks
🌿 Letting go of unrealistic expectations
🌿 Practising self-care without guilt

Self-compassion doesn’t mean ignoring mistakes or avoiding responsibility. It means acknowledging that you’re human and choosing to support yourself as you learn and grow.

📅 Wednesdays: September 9, 16 and 23
⏰ 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
💚 All sessions are free—everyone is welcome!

Register at www.recoverycollegecentralalberta.ca or call 403-967-0475.

You deserve the same compassion you so freely offer others.

🍂 Wellness Tip Tuesday: Easing Back Into Routine

After the flexibility of summer, returning to a regular routine can feel overwhelming. You don’t have to change everything at once—small, consistent steps can help make the transition easier.

Try these back-to-routine wellness tips:

🌿 Start with one anchor. Choose one activity to do around the same time each day, such as waking up, eating breakfast, or taking an evening walk.
😴 Adjust your sleep gradually. Move your bedtime or wake-up time a little earlier each day instead of making one sudden change.
📝 Prepare the night before. Set out what you need, write a short priority list, or prepare breakfast to make the morning feel less rushed.
🥗 Remember the basics. Regular meals, water, movement, and rest can support your energy and focus.
🧘 Schedule downtime too. A healthy routine includes time to pause, recharge, and do things you enjoy.
💚 Be flexible with yourself. Missing one day doesn’t mean you have failed—you can simply begin again.

What is one small routine you would like to restart or create this September?

💚 Gratitude Friday: A Weekend Journaling Reflection

Before the week ends, take a few quiet minutes to pause and reflect.

Try completing these prompts:

✍️ One small moment I’m grateful for this week is…
✍️ Someone who made a difference in my week is…
✍️ Something I handled better than I give myself credit for is…
✍️ One thing I learned about myself this week is…
✍️ This weekend, I would like to make space for…

Gratitude doesn’t mean ignoring difficult feelings or pretending everything is okay. It simply invites us to notice the moments of comfort, connection, or progress that can exist alongside the hard things.

What is one small thing you’re grateful for today? 🌿
