June 15โ€“21 is Seniors Loneliness Awareness Week ๐Ÿ’œ

Social connection is an important part of our overall health and well-being. Yet many older adults experience loneliness and social isolation due to factors such as health challenges, loss of loved ones, reduced mobility, or changing social networks.

This week, we encourage everyone to take a moment to connect with a senior in their life. A phone call, a visit, a shared coffee, or even a simple conversation can make a meaningful difference.

According to GenWell, more than half of Canadian seniors report feelings of loneliness, reminding us that connection is not just nice to haveโ€”it is an important part of healthy aging.

๐Ÿ’™ A simple connection can make a big difference.
During Seniors Loneliness Awareness Week (June 15โ€“21), Southwestern Public Health and GenWell are encouraging everyone to reach out to an older adult in their life.
Whether it's a phone call, a walk, a coffee, or an invitation to connect, small acts of kindness can help reduce loneliness and strengthen our communities.
This week, take a moment to reach out. You never know how much it might mean to someone.

Members of the Elgin Ontario Health Team recently attended the Alliance for Healthier Communities Annual Conference 2026, joining health system leaders from across Ontario to explore innovative approaches to primary care attachment, health equity, and community-centred care.

Many of the conversations reflected the work already underway in St. Thomas and Elgin County through our Neighbourhood Health Home model, including coordinated access to care, team-based services, community outreach, and culturally safe, person-centred approaches.

The conference provided valuable opportunities to build new connections, and bring back ideas that will help strengthen access to care and improve health outcomes for our community.

๐ŸŒŸThis month, we're highlighting Heather Talbot, Elgin OHT's Indigenous Health Lead.

"I like being part of the Elgin OHT because I feel like doing systems level work can lead to lasting change."

Her dedication to collaboration, relationship-building, and advancing Indigenous health perspectives helps strengthen the work of the Elgin OHT every day.

When she's not working, Heather enjoys spending time with her kids and dogs, and has a love for musical theatre.

Thank you, Heather, for the knowledge, leadership, and passion you bring to our team and community. ๐Ÿ’œ
